Now Christmas is almost upon us..

Spangler, 18 October, 2011 at 09:08 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 71

What is the worst gift you were ever given?

Here are some of mine to get started:

A decorative coat hanger

A pizza cutter

A Tinkerbelle glitter puff (given last year by my SIL)

Tell me yours please!

    ?

Just thought of another - Mr S is always given these hideous pig ornaments from his Mum. He has never collected them, but she insists on buying them.

A lamp shaped like a handbag. It was so tacky, and quite obviously something my nan had won at prize Bingo.

It wasn't a Christmas present but an old bf once bought me "The Monkees Greatest Hits" CD.

My boyfriend in college for our first Christmas together got me a can of deoderant. That was it. I was furious.

My elderly Auntie every single year as far back as I can remember has got me and my sisters a scarf and glove set. Nothing wrong with it as such but I am running out of people to give them to as I really really don't need 28 scarves. Bless her.

My gran, bless her, always got the worst presents. She used to order things from adverts on the back of old lady magazines.

The best one was an all in one fleecy pyjama thing (like a babygro) which zipped up to the neck, in burgundy, with a flower motif on the chest. I was 17.

My ex H bought me a tin of biscuits!

His mum would buy me a three pack of BHS granny knickers two sizes too big every year!

Some excellent responses! My Auntie also once gave me a gym bag, towel, deodorant & sweat bands. Basically suggesting I'm fat, smell & am sweaty.

...oh and wrapped all my gifts in Tesco carrier bags as she thought it was funny. Was mortified at the time, but it is quite funny looking back on it.

I don't think I've ever really had an awful Christmas present. I've been lucky from the sounds of things. Last year H didn't get me anything though! In his defence, he'd been ill the entire week before Christmas and isn't organised enough to have done any of his shopping in advance.

Last year my nan brought me a lavender set of smellies. That's not bad I hear you all cry - well on the gift tag it read; "Dear *Dot, Happy Christmas love Kath and Pete.

    *Dot is my nan.

I got a smellies set once from my cousin, stuck to the back of which was a raffle ticket with her name on it...

This is so not a bad present!!! I would have loved one of them as a Christmas present!!!

My worst was actually from my boyfriend at the time... I'd asked for a cookery book for Christmas, and given him a list of many to chose from, but instead of getting me one of the ones I'd asked for, he got me "Jamie's America" - if anyone's ever seen this cookbook, it's pretty much aligator and burgers. It's still sitting on my book shelf, never been used, and collecting dust!! The same year, he asked my mum what she'd bought me and she told him she'd got me a watch - the one I'd asked for. On Xmas morning, I opened a present from him, expecting it to be a lovely piece of jewellery... He'd spent a FORTUNE on a really really horrible chunky Guess watch. (We split up about 3 weeks after Xmas, and I sold the watch on eBay getting a good amount for it!)

When I was 6 months pregnant my mum bought me a voucher for a days paintballing. With an expiry date of 6 weeks after my due date. I have NEVER expressed an interest in paintballing. She didn't talk to me for a while because I didn't use it. ?

Waaah @ raffle prizes and recycled presents!

Cricks - proper lavender (lavandula angustifolia) smells completely different and is quite nice. Old lady lavender, however, isn't pleasant. Have a whiff of L'Occitane's lavender stuff.

Worse present was probably an ex BF buying me a necklace and earring set (before I had my ears pierced) and my neck was green by boxing day from the necklace.

Most random was MIL2B buying me a suitcase last year and the matching vanity for my birthday...

Is it me or Spanglers gifts arent that bad ?

The worst 2 from an ex, were an ironing board cover, an ugly cheap one at that, and a bottle of body spray cos it had my name as the scent.

I have no idea. H got one too. When I said I wasn't going she sulked, despite me having a newborn, breast feeding, urm stiches.....

When I said H wasn't going either, he too had no interest and hadn't slept for four weeks, she said she'd "hang, draw and bloody quarter him".

H thinks I'm adopted. I think he might be on to something ?

I did ask her that and she said she thought it'd come in handy for the wedding - the suitcase is one of those wheelie numbers that you can use as hand luggage so quite how I'd have got the dress in it??? As for the vanity my wash bag is too big for it!
