Occupying my guests

TheNinjaPigeon, 20 June, 2010 at 12:25 Posted on Planning 0 4

Help - I need ideas. I am having a January wedding so to make sure we have light for the church and early photos at the reception in North Leeds I am having a 12:00 service and 2:30 reception. The evening reception and DJ won't be starting until about 7:30. I suspect I am going to have an hour or so that will just be down time for the guests. it may not be such a bad thing for me and hubby to be as a chance to have a sit down together might be just what we want.....but what can I do to keep the guests occupied other than stick them in a bar to get sloshed.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received (but I do have a fairly tight budget).

To be honest I think that an hour to chat, relax and have a drink before the evening do might be quite welcome by most! However some random thoughts I had:

    - Buy some small trivia games/card sets and scatter them over tables to keep conversation going

    - A "photo booth" set up with dress-up masks etc where people can take silly pictures for you to keep

    - A caricaturist (if your budget would reach this - I have no idea how much they cost!) or table-to-table magician - not to my taste personally but might suit others!

I am also a January bride! Whats your date?

Like Annah said I wouldnt worry too much, all I am doing in our down time is having a video guest book set up for guests to record messages. People will prob welcome the chance to have a chat and a drink!

We were supposed to have a 2 hour gap but as soon as the day finished, we went to get our stuff out the car, checked into our room, went upstairs to freshen up and when we got up there we realised we only had 15 mins before the evening guests arrived. You may find you overrun and don't have as much time as you thought so i really wouldn't stress about it. People will amuse themselves and you may not need to spend the money on entertaining them. x

Thanks everyone - I think i may relax a little about it all then. I was stressing a bit as yesterday I went to a very smooth running organised wedding!

Laura - my date's the 29th Jan 2011. How about you?

Are most people staying at your venue or very nearby? if so they could go to their rooms and relax/freshen up. but as others have said, an hour isn't very long. and you may very well overrun in other areas so won't even end up with that much time. people will probably just end up chatting and milling about
