    I can't access it at work ☹️

I'm doomed to actually having to do work during the day, calamity ?

Sadly yes you could have, do a proper virus scan (update your scanner first)

It would have been a pop up, but a mean and nasty one

I had this - but I didn't run the 'scan' it asked me to or download the virus protector. I then ran my own Norton full system scan and had nothing. So I think as long as you don't donwload and run the things it asks you to it will be fine! I must admit though - the pop ups where impressively real looking.

Yes got exactly the same. My firm's anti virus came up with nothing but this one wants you to buy their antivirus package as it is saying my machine is infected with Trojan. Annoying though as the message keeps popping up every few seconds.

Joined Mel's forum this morning; al the usual Hitched people on there so think I will stay with that. Not a lot of traffice on the official Hitched site today and no response from Darren to the posts on the swearing thread (surprise, surprise)

My main machine won't even boot up this morning after using the other site. And that's the only new thing I did yesterday. Am now having to run the machine in Safe Mode and virus check it to see if I can load it normally. What a shame because it was nice over there

It's not affected mine, of course the other new thing you did was use the new server here.

It hasn't affected mine either, but then we're using Firefox. How annoying.

Unfortunately, my system has been infected with the Trojan virus and I think it was from that site as it happened just after I had registered and started to use the site. It may have come from one of the ads and I have gone on there today and it seems fine but others did have a similar experience yesterday.

I was using Firefox too. When I tried to shut the other forum last night I got loads of virus messages, but had read on here that that had happened to a few people and it was all OK so I ignored it. This morning it took nearly 2 hours to get my machine to even boot up in safe mode

Don't think I'm going to risk it today as this is my work machine too

I logged on to the new site the evening that Hitched was down, I spent ages trying to get my machine to boot back up, but it would only do it in safe mode. At least I know where the virus came from now. ☹️

I have registered but not posted yet, am a little put off at the thought of getting a virus. Then I would have to confess a double hitched addiction to H lol.

Is it just me or has the other place just crashed/gone completely slow?

tbh, I think I'll be staying over here as I'm pretty sure Darren's servers are better than a free forum one so even if it does occasionally creak under the weight of posts it is probably a lot more reliable. The other place hasn't even managed a full day yet...

(no virus issues here btw but I expect it's because I'm on a Mac)

TBH you should have decent virus protection in place no matter where you go on the web because you never know. We don't know for sure the virus came from freeforums - I've been using them for months and months with no problems. Whilst I'm on a Mac at home I'm on a PC at work and they let me access freeforums - they wouldn't if it was dodgy.

I had the virus pop up thingy but its only for you to buy their virus protector. I just blocked the pop ups and they're gone. I've run my virus scan and it says theres no threats found.

I've never had a problem with freeforums either and I've used them before.

I suspect if the problem has come from them, it's from one of their advertisers rather than the site itself.

I use firefox 3 with adblock plus and I've had no pop ups or anything else.

As I said earlier on, it has infected my machine with Trojan and I do have virus protection - it is a company machine. It happened just after I had registered and was just browsing so I know it came from there. The virus protector they want you to buy is 'stuck' in my machine and I am getting pop ups every couple of seconds . Driving me nuts and IT can't actually get to my machine until next week as we have no IT onsite at this office until then. Really annoying.

I was a tad concerned as I had the 'trojan infection' pop up thingy come up as well. It told me I had several documents infected and the pop up thing seemd to be attached to my cursor. I just closed down my machine and re-booted.

I am on a work's laptop so rang our IT bods. We actually have to log on via a VPN (whatever that may be) so they have assured me that all my anti-virus is up to date and I most definitely won't be infected. They said it's a ruse by some internet company to click on and purchase their software.

I am a computer numpty and have no idea what it's all abpout, but work have assured me it's all ok so I'm not worrying too much! ?
