A friend of mine lives in the area and she has just had a baby so my heart has been in my mouth througout this, it is a relief, but i really do hope it doesnt end in him 'ending it' or the police having to fire shots, what he has done is awfull he needs to face up to it, but he obviously has 'issues' and until they are addressed and he gets the right support he will never be able to fully understand or take responsibility for what he has done, and the families will not get the proper justice they deserve! Really hope the police can talk him down.

Lorna I hope your friend is ok and not to shaken, must be horrible living there.

Teehee, he was chased up the high street towards the riverside. His been negotiating for a few hrs now. His now standing up now rather than lying down, they have one definant friend there called Tony who they have brought in hoping to talk to him. Gazzy has just appeared out of nowhere with food for him.

I've not been able to speak to her today, but when I spoke to her yesterday she was really just trying to carry on as normal and was quite relaxed because at that point he hadn't made threats to the public, I'm glued to the tv at the moment, not sure what Paul Gasgoigne is playing at!

My MIL works night shift at Newcastle General Hospital, they had to lock down half the hospital when Moat arrived. and apparently Gazza was mortal and crying all night. But then again it was only 2 weeks ago he got into a car crash on the Quayside and was drunk.

Am I the only one here who has a bit of sympathy for Moat?? The bloke had lost his job, house, missus and KIDS in a short space of time?! I'm NOT saying what he did was right!! I live in Newcastle and have been on edge for a week, locking every window and door and still checking every wardrobe and cupboard everytime I got home!

Again, I in no way condone what he has done, and felt sad this morning when I checked Sky News and seen he had killed himself rather than been arrested and locked up in a cell for life.

But there is a slight part of me that feels sorry for the bloke!!

    xxx

P.S: PLEASE don't bombard me with hate mail if you think I'm an idiot for having sympathy, it's just my opinion and we're all entitled to that!!!

M2H i couldnt agree with you more, this man was badly let down 2 people lost their lives 4 families ruined because of this! I really dont think he was in control of himself , he had huge issues it seems, needs that were unmet when he was released, again i do not condone at all what he did,

he was backed into a corner was scared, he knew what he had done but wasnt able to reason with himself to stop and give himself up

Eee Thanks Lorna, I was sure I was going to be marched off Hitched for saying I sympathise!

Not saying I suffered more trauma than anyone else who has followed this story, but I live in Newcastle....I know Birtley (where the gf and new bf were shot), I know East Denton (where PC Rathband was shot at the roundabout), he's from Fenham which is the next town north! So to hear these places being mentioned was just surreal!!

Not saying I would do the same, and not saying what he did was right....but if I was backed into a corner like that, I'm not sure what I would do!!

He still has a family who havn't had justice!!

I can't find anything on Google as everything related to his name brings up more recent news!

But I'm sure I heard at the beginning of the week it was for "Violent Conduct", serving 18weeks

Fresh details about Moat's background have emerged, which may explain his enmity towards the police. Arrested 12 times since 2000, Moat had been charged on seven occasions, but convicted only once – for assault on a child, for which he served his recent prison sentence. In 2000 he was arrested on conspiracy to murder in relation to a Newcastle gangland killing, but was released without charge.

    sounds like a lovely bloke!

Its a really difficult one- yes I feel sympathy for his situation however that cannot justify his actions-many people face hardship and issues in life but don't go around shooting people.

Think I found it more difficult as my H2B is a policeman and kept imagining how I would feel if it was him!

Teehee I'm not saying he was a 'lovely' bloke.

And also all the family members who are commenting are saying 'he was so quiet'...'he was so placid, never saw him angry' etc etc! Ofcourse they're not gonna say any different!

What I was trying to say is that he had a rough deal and in the past week was scared! If that wasn't the case and that 40page letter/rant from him where he said "I'm not on the run, this is me with war with the police"....he wouldn't of ran off to the countryside (Rothbury), he would have gone straight into a police station with a gun, or planted bombs there!

I just feel in the end, his family hasnt any justice and that surely there could have been someone, somewhere who could have helped him/prevented this from happening!!

PS: I have A LOT of respect for PC Rathband for wanting his wounded pictures to be shown!!

I don't know if it was a shock factor to friends of Moat's to give him up, or a warning to the general public! But I do think most people in his situation would have wanted those pictures hidden away!!
