I got sucked into as well. I can't believe it - take it we won't be starting another up? I don't know if I'm annoyed at clicking the link and spending far too much time reading it, or really glad the link was there to read.

I'm on page 17 of that thread but I've ran out of tea and it's almost home time...

    Honestly, that escalated quickly!

I think Hitched can be a little too nice nowadays.

So please remind me then...what was the spark that led to 27 people feeling the need to break away???? I was the 28th for a while......honest question.........OT was prolific for the first 5 years I was a member of this group...what changed??? again, serious question......IIRC Icequeen was involved as a mod...although please correct me if this is wrong......

The reason 27 of us moved away from here was we simply wanted to talk somewhere private, be able to share photos get to know each other more and a open forum just isn't the place for it. We've been together through babies, weddings, sad times in our lives and celebrated for each other and it just couldn't have happened on here. Next month some of us are attending the wedding of one of our 27, and at the end of the month some of us are getting together again.

I never said that the breakaway was wrong or posted innapropriate threads...I "knew" most of the contributors and miss some of their contributions...OT has never been the same on hitched since... I am glad that the alternative group is still going strong....whoever the one getting married is, have a great day....

We fancied a chat and hitched changed the forum, which I am sure you will remember people were not best pleased about.

you said that some of us received warnings and we had to leave. That didn't happen and is not ok. If you don't know what happened ask rather than spressing routers.

That won't make anyone come back and chat.

I don't believe I said that people individually received warnings.

Halloweeny commented that nobody received individual warnings. What I said was "after a few forum warnings" which was meant to be about a general request from the mods (yes they were rare although occasionally they woke up) about code of conduct in what was said in posts. There was a concern at the time about Hitched being legally liable for comments hosted on their forums.

I do see how my post could have been taken to read, that it was individual warnings, which it certainly wasn't.

I think we're getting our wires crossed. Im certain that Peter is talking about the older generation of otters that were here, not us most recent lot.

Ha, glad the what you don't like at weddings thread has been dug up again, that was a humdinger! That's why hitched makes me a bit sad now, you can't have huge threads like that anymore!

Indeed, I have never been critical of the breakaway group.....it needed its own space. Some very good debaters in there...sort of sad I lapsed my membership of that group......Being a vendor too, means that I have to post in open forums with moderation, whereas, a group such as the breakaway, it was possible to "open up"....

Who got the mysterious warnings then? I would say we all started to peel off in 2013 but it wasn't because hitched told us too! Deadwood was set up before I joined hitched so prior to 2010. Us original otters are all still in touch in Facebook groups. Hitched just don't make it mobile friendly at all to use forums.

'What don't you like at weddings' should be on my CV.

I was on OT for a while a couple of years or more ago, and lurked for quite a while before that, and I do recall seeing comments from moderators on posts - nothing ever directed at individuals, but general reminders to be courteous. I do also remember seeing a (again, general) comment about Hitched being liable for what is posted on its site - I think that one might have been on the main forum on a thread about a particular competitor or supplier, though.

Tbh, I left the OT because I felt it was (unintentionally) a little cliquey with all of the OMs who already knew each other. I felt out of place, so figured I'd leave and come back nearer or after my wedding when more others who joined Hitched at the same time as me would also be moving over to OT.

Peter isn't wrong but I think he is referring to something that happened a long time before many of you were even members. A couple of PPs have already mentioned it. There were warnings and eventually nearly the entire prolific off topic group moved to a new forum opened by one of the members. I think this was over 5 years ago though.

It's taken me 10 minutes to post this from my mobile. Ang wonder that hitched is dying on its arse?

FWIW, out of respect for those that "broke away", I deliberately never mentioned the name of the group in any post......

Respect? I must be missing something, They left a wedding forum, not died!

I'm fairly confident the users of DW are really not worried about about a forum they left 7 years ago. Happy to be provedwrong of course.

I felt it appropriate. Hitched is where your forum had its roots... I was applying a degree of courtesy for some "old" contacts who I used to discuss things with.
