OFFS - My mother

Bowski, 14 October, 2011 at 17:01 Posted on Planning 0 6

So I phoned her to ask when her and my dad would be in tomorrow so we could drop my dress off, I get a really arsey reply from her and she asks if we'll be going round on sunday (in my parents speak this means going around for a long time) I say that we'd only be able to nip as OH wants to listen to the football as it's a derby match, well she decided that it's because he's got his parents round for a meal again, yes we had them round for a meal last sunday as we needed to sort some things about the blessing out and as they're paying £2.5k for that it wasn't unreasonable for us to ask them to come round for cottage pie so we could discuss this. Had my parents shown the slightest bit of interest in our wedding and helped us out rather than thinking that them giving us £250 was the best thing since sliced bread (they are more well off than the inlaws, I know it's their money to do with as they will but we are entitled to show our appreciation to the people who are helping us keep some savings) we'd have had them round but when we have a limited number of weekends and saw them the saturday there was no reason not to invite them round.

She's going to be a b*tch at the wedding isn't she?

Eh? You've told her you don't have time on Sunday, she's made an assumption, why don't you just tell her that you're not having the future in-laws around for dinner?

Noone quite has the power to drive us potty quite like our mothers. Take a deep breath, smile, tell her that she is reading too much into it and move on.

Smile some more ... you are getting married v soon and that is all that matters!

Dont you think she'll be too caught up in the day to be too much of a ***?

yeah, she might be a *** all the way running up to it and probably a little after but probably wont be megabitch on the day.

im fully expecting my run up to the wedding to be difficult with mine, but i wouldnt worry too much

If she's true to form she'll be a megabitch on the day as well (she was last time)

She did make assumptions, I told her they were wrong and she still got the arse on with me! I have no hope! If she continues to be a cow when I see her to drop the dress off I'm giving her the option of sorting her attitude out or not coming to the wedding, we are not spending £4k to have the day ruined by her being an attention seeking cow!

A limited number of weekends? If I'm reading your ticker right you've got this weekend... then you get married next weekend?

We kept the whole of our last month clear for doing all the essentials, and having people over for a cottage pie was most definitely not one of our priorities!
