oh gawd [whinge icon].... inspire me please....

bluewater, 2 June, 2009 at 13:41 Posted on Planning 0 15

So we have chosen one reading already (the lyrics from to be alone with you by bob dylan) and i *think* i want i carry your heart by ee cummings as the other. h2b isn't overly keen so am trying to find something else as a back up.

so i neeeeeeeeed inspiration for wedding readings pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease. nothing overly predictable, cheesy, nothing overly old fashioned - something tender, sweet, relatively modern.

sorry for being so whiny, just want to be out of work and in the sun!

We're having 2, the ee cummings one and this one called "maybe"... the author is unknown (or it maybe I just don't have the googling skills!)... it's quite modern and not too vomit inducing... the OH definitely prefers it to the ee cummings one.

'Maybe...We are supposed to meet the wrong people before meeting the right one so that, when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift

Maybe...it is true that we don't know what we have got until we lose it, but it is also true that we don't know what we have been missing until it arrives.

Maybe...the happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Maybe...the best kind of love is the kind you can sit on a sofa together and never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had

Maybe...you shouldn't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright.

Maybe...you should hope for enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, and enough hope to make you happy.

Maybe... Love is not about finding the perfect person, it's about learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.'

Sorry this isn't going to help but have decided not to have any.

I'm quite pleased really - I don't really see what they add to the day tbh

    We had "Maybe".

(In fact, as I fiddled with the layout for it, I think Beccy Sprout has actually copy and pasted that from one of my previous posts!)

i like the maybe one - will suggest it to h2b.

jo, if you want i can telephone or video in my reading? send me off to thailand with a 3g video phone or a camcorder and satellite and i'll do it a live video link from the beach in koh samui? what do you mean, no?

<holds finger to ear> Come in koh samui, can you hear us? <looks to the skies with a vacant expression>

I'm sure I'll cope with my ceremony being 3 minutes long thanks. ?

These are the 2 we will be having:

    The One
When the one whose hand you're holding
Is the one one who holds your heart
When the one whose eyes you gaze into
Gives your hopes and dreams their start ,
When the one you think of first and last
Is the one who holds you tight,
And the things you plan together
Make the whole world seem just right,
When the one whom you believe in
puts their faith and trust in you,
You've found the one and only love
You'll share your whole life through.

    I belong in your arms

Finally, I have found a place

Into which I fit Perfectly, Safely

    And securely with no doubts,

No fears, No sadness, No tears.

This place is filled with happiness and laughter

Yet it is spacious enough, to allow me

    The freedom to move around,

To live my life and be myself.

This wonderful place, which I never believed really existed,

    I have found Finally

Inside your arms, Inside your heart, inside your love

We might have this one but not sure yet:

(Can't get rid of the bold or the centre alignment, apologies)

The Best Is Yet To Be

    On your joyful wedding day,
You begin a brand new life.
Friends and family give their gifts
    To joyful husband, blissful wife.

But the greatest gift you'll ever get,
    A gift from heaven above,
    Is love forever, ending never,
    Everlasting love.

    You'll share life's joy and pleasure;
You'll have plenty of that, it's true.
But love is the real treasure
For your new spouse and you.

And if life hands you challenges,
As it does to one and all,
Your love will hold you steady
    And never let you fall.

    Your wedding day is full of joy;
    Tomorrow you cannot see.
But one thing's sure for the two of you:
The best is yet to be.

We are having Corinthians reading and this as our other one:

The Art Of A Good Marriage
    Wilferd Arlan Peterson

Happiness in marriage is not something that just happens.
A good marriage must be created.
In marriage the little things are the big things.
It is never being too old to hold hands.
It is remembering to say "I love you" at least once a day.
It is never going to sleep angry.
It is at no time taking the other for granted; the courtship should not end with the honeymoon, it should continue through all the years.
It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.
It is standing together facing the world.
It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.
It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.
It is not looking for perfection in each other.
It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humour.
It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.
It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.
It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.

We didn't have readings but had we, I would have picked these:

If I Could Write Words by Spike Milligan

    If I could write words
Like leaves on an autumn forest floor,
What a bonfire my letters would make.

If I could speak words of water,
You would drown when I said
    "I love you."

I Don't Know Why (Lyrics) by Shawn Colvin.

    I don't know why
    The sky is so blue
    And I don't know why
I'm so in love with you
But if there were no music
Then I would not get through
    I don't know why
I know these things, but I do

    I don't know why
    But somewhere dreams come true
    And I don't know where
But there will be a place for you
And every time you look that way
I would lay down my life for you
    I don't know why
I know these things, but I do

    I don't know why
But some are going to make you cry
    And I don't know how
But I will get you by, I will try
They're not trying to cause you pain
They're just afraid of loving you
    I don't know why
I know these things, but I do

    I don't know why
    The trees grow so tall
    And I don't know why
I don't know anything at all
But if there were no music
Then I would not get through
    I don't know why
I know these things, but I do
    I don't know why
I know these things, but I do

    Everther (lyrics) by Elbow

All my saints have taken bribes
    Singing going going gone
    All the angels taken dives
    Leaving you the only one

If I loose a sequin here and there
More salt than pepper in my hair
    Can I rely on you
When all the songs are through
To be for me the everthere, everthere

    Slide into another book
Now and then laugh out loud
    Throw that very dirty look
    That says
    OK
    Stop staring at me now

If I loose the sequence here and there
Less derring do than quiet care
    Can I rely on you
    For a good talking to
To be for me the everthere, everthere

If I loose a sequin here and there
And take my time on every stair
    Can I rely on you
When this whole thing is through
To be for me the everthere, everthere

    We are having this :

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
    And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.

May God be with you and bless you:
May you see your children's children.
May you be poor in misfortune,
    Rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness
    From this day forward.

May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home
And may the hand of a friend always be near.

May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you

It is an Irish blessing which we are having as the OH's family are Irish.

We are having Sonnet 116 and Chapter one of one thousand bj OJ Preston

    Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

    Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Let me not to the marriage of true minds

    Admit impediments.

Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds,

Or bends with the remover to remove.

O no! It is an ever fixed mark,

    That looks on tempests and is never shaken;

It is the star to every wandring bark,

    Whose worths unknown

    Although his height be taken.

    Loves not Times fool,

Though rosy lips and cheeks within his bending sickles compass come.

Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,

    But bears it out even to the edge of doom;

If this be error, and upon me proved,

I never writ, nor no man loved.

    Chapter One of One Thousand

    By OJ Preston

For two people this dawn brought on a

    magical day

Now husband and wife they head on their way

As a boat setting sail may their journey begin

With calmest of waters, most helpful of wind

And if they should stumble upon turbulent sea

May it pass them unharming – leave them be.

For here are two people whom love

    has well bitten

Here opens their book which has

    yet to be written

As the first page unfold and their life inks its path

May it write a true story whereforever love lasts

Let their journey be happy till death do they part

Of one thousand chapters may this be the start.

Hi everyone, thanks for all your readings. i was watching a film last night, and got a flash of inspiration for a reading while i watched - here's the reading:

    Good morning, on July 7

Though still in bed, my thoughts go out to you, my Immortal Beloved, now and then joyfully, then sadly, waiting to learn whether or not fate will hear us - I can live only wholly with you or not at all - Yes, I am resolved to wander so long away from you until I can fly to your arms and say that I am really at home with you, and can send my soul enwrapped in you into the land of spirits - Yes, unhappily it must be so - You will be the more contained since you know my fidelity to you. No one else can ever possess my heart - never - never - Oh God, why must one be parted from one whom one so loves. And yet my life in V is now a wretched life - Your love makes me at once the happiest and the unhappiest of men - At my age I need a steady, quiet life - can that be so in our connection? My angel, I have just been told that the mailcoach goes every day - therefore I must close at once so that you may receive the letter at once - Be calm, only by a calm consideration of our existence can we achieve our purpose to live together - Be calm - love me - today - yesterday - what tearful longings for you - you - you - my life - my all - farewell. Oh continue to love me - never misjudge the most faithful heart of your beloved.

    ever thine
    ever mine
    ever ours

    (Ludwig Van Beethoven)

i know i didn't want anything old fashioned, but this reminded me of the time when h2b and i lived at opposite ends of the UK, and when we used to write love letters to each other all the time ?

now all i need to do is persuade h2b that this is the reading to go with, and not let him in on the fact that the above comes from the SATC movie..... ?
