Oh God MrH has been made redundant

Hyacinth, 23 January, 2009 at 13:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 29

Why does this keep happening to us? I just can't believe it, again.

no notice, no outstanding commisson to be paid, they waited until he'd arranged a contract and told him just now.

it took him 4 months to find work last time.

and I have a meeting at 2, I really badly just want to go home.

what should I say to him?

It's not his fault it's the economic climate.

My OH has been out of work since October, he is registered with several agencies, and checks the job sites every day - there is just nothing out there, and it is hard to make him feel good about himself. Just support him.

? Nothing yet. Go to your meeting, try and calm down and talk to him this evening. Poor you, I am so sorry.

I know its not his fault, it's just constant bad luck. He told them they were breaking his employment contract burt they said they'd have to take that risk as they simply can't afford his salary (and a few other peoples there)

gah! thanks all. I thought this year would be better too ?

So sorry to hear this Hyacinth - my H was made redundant on Monday. You just need to be there and support him - mine has taken it very personally and has needed a lot of moral support. I just thank God I've been signed off sick this week so could be here for him.

I take it he'd been there less than a year so can get away with doing this?

Luckily (or not), my H's company didn't follow statutory redundancy procedure and didn't use fair selection criteria so we're appealing the dismissal/redundancy and will go through to tribunal if need be.

Good luck to your H in finding a new job and for you, to have strength to support him.

Not the best news is it. I being made redundant in end april/may time. Try to stay upbeat and positive (take this time to line up lots of jobs around the house for him?).

For me I am fed up of people asking how I will cope? I don't need reminding by everyone I know that we are in a recession and that its a crap time to be out of work. I'm also pissed off with the bloke who I sit next at work for asking me how long we have for me to find a new job before we struggle tomake our mortgage payments - is it 3 or 4 months? Well not that its any of his business but my husband can cover the bills, food and petrol , I we will also have redundancy money and we have savings, so over a year!!!

Thank you all, and massive ? to those in the same situation.

Unfortunatly we can't pay the mortgage on my salary, but I am very very open to moving and we are going to reexamine renting out our flat. Its like a leech, sucking us dry, and its too much for MrH to have the pressure of having to earn a high salary to keep it.

We are cautiously optimistic that this might turn out to be a good move. I really really hope we've hit rock bottom though because I don't think we can keep going through this (now the third time in 4 years)

thanks again,I'll let you know how we get on x

I'm really sorry to hear this, what horrid luck. Sounds like you're already starting to make plans to try and weather it though, well done. He's a very lucky guy to have you to give him emotional and practical support. I hope he find something soon.

Know how you're feeling, my husband's present job is his fourth in a year. He left a job to go to another at the beginning of 2008, was made redundant, got another job, made redundant again and is now in another job, which (touch wood) seems to be doing well, has plenty of work at the moment.

Hope your husband finds something soon.

Oh Hyacinth. That's sh!te news. I'm so sorry.

I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason, so I hope the reason is that your H will end up finding something even better next time around. Hope it doesn't put too much of a strain on you both, and that he finds employment quickly.

Bet your hug was very welcome ?
