OH S**T

little chilli, 11 November, 2008 at 12:01 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I just had a phonecall from OH and his boss called a meeting this morning and announced there would be no bonuses this year and no longer any 'PD's. This has the most inpact on OH as he is often abroad and the money he earns from these jobs are a big chunk of his take home pay. We had tightened our belts alot due to our wedding next May so now it is going to be extremely difficult. I am relieved that there will be no job losses but still worried about the reduction of money coming in. Just needed to post to get it off my chest.

It's tough times out there, I feel your pain. I can't think of any industry really where they'll be raking in the bonuses. We're certainly not getting any this year at my firm, despite record breaking results. Whilst I'll not starve by any means without my bonus, it is a large chunk of my income (usually 18-25%) and I'll need to be very careful with my spending next year. However, like you say, I am just relieved to be in a job at all!

is there anything you have booked for the wedding you can cut back on , half the stuff is superficial anyway and hardly anyone remembers the little bits that add up to a lot of money

This is also true! I promise you, nobody will care if you dispense with favours etc. Also, cutting back on the hen and stag parties can save an absolute fortune.

Good thinking Lou these can cost a fortune and you can have just as much fun without spending an absolute bomb

why dont you ask on planning or even here about things that may be a waste of money it will all help even if its only £50 here and £50 there

I feel your pain. H was made redundant last december and our wedding was in february. We just about managed to pay for everything we had already booked but we didnt have a hen or stag do and didnt book the honeymoon until 2 days after the wedding to get a last minute deal. H's parents ended up paying for the wine or no one would have had any at the meal!

Thanks for your replys. Oh's mum is paying for all reception costs so thats one relief. Westill need to pay the balances for all dresses although half the bridemaids have said they will pay for theirs, we still need to get suits, photographer (our friend will do the pictures as he is a photographer so hopefully he will be cheaper) and fees. OH's stag do was paid for last week but my hen do isn't so will probably scale it down. It bugs me that had we known about it a few weeks ago we could have really cut back but now its to late as deposits have been paid. I expect we will cope and I can see OH's mum helping out a bit . Just more stress when I didn't need it.
