Old marrieds please help timings of the day.

mimimouse23, 18 August, 2009 at 15:52 Posted on Planning 0 5

Ok so just trying to put together the day in my head. I really don't want people hanging around and getting board.

We are having a church service and then the reception venue is aprox 20mins away, how much time did the photos take, meal and speaches etc? The order I have so far is

Church 2-2.45

Photos 2.45-3.00

Travel to reception 3-3.30

Meal 5-7

Reception starts 7.30

Which means the gap between arriving at the reception is an hour and a half, which as we are only providing one drink seems like a long time! Have we forgotten anything?

Thanks!

Depending on the photos you are having i would say more time is needed for that. It took 5 minutes to gather everyone together for the group shot!

Don't worry, that time will get taken up quite quickly! For a start I would expect photos to take longer than 15mins - ours took an hour. Plus you are relying on everything running exactly to time, which it probably won't, you'll find you take a minute here and there to chat to your guests and time runs away really quickly!

Meal at 5pm sounds fine considering the time of the ceremony. Is there a bar so people can buy another drink after the one you are providing?

    Here was mine...

    2-2.40 - ceremony

    2.45 - 3.15 photos.

3.15 - 3.45 Bus takes guests to reception whilst OH and I went for photos at airfield. Guests all just hit the bar and were half pished by the time we got there!

3.45 -4.15 - was our journey to the reception

4.15 - 5 was photo opportunities for us and any guests taking pics.

    5pm was dinner time!

Our timings (I think - it seems like a long time ago now ?) were as follows:

    2pm - Ceremony (civil ceremony)

2.20pm - Drinks and photos at ceremony venue

    3.20pm - Leave for reception

    4pm - Arrive at reception

    5pm - Meal

    6.30pm - Speeches

    7.30pm - Evening guests arrive

I think I'd also allow slightly more time for your photos, and perhaps shorten the hour and a half before the meal, I usually find this to be the bit where there's a bit of a lull at weddings, generally because guests probably haven't eaten since breakfast and want to get to the food!
