old, new, borrowed, blue...

adiesummer2012, 10 February, 2012 at 11:27 Posted on Planning 0 25

Is everyone doing this - and if so what are you having?

I'm having my dress as the 'new', wearing a necklace that I've had for years bought by my OH as my 'old' (does that count?!) but have no idea what to do for borrowed and blue. Inspiration? x

Old: going to raid my parents' house next week for something!

    New: dress and jewellery

    Borrowed: my future sil's veil

Blue: not sure yet, might get a garter with a bit of blue in it or maybe find some pretty baby blue underwear...

    New - dress

Borrowed - my Aunties ivory mink coat to wear to keep me warm!

Blue - my garter, and also little blue bits on my underwear

Don't forget about the silver sixpence in your shoe!

I'm having my dress as new, I'm hoping to borrow an old bracelet from my Gran and for my something blue I am having mine and OH initials stitched on the inside of my dress.

Could you borrow some jewellery from a family member?

Blue underwear's a good idea. Love the idea of having something stitched into dress but I think I'd be too scared to touch it!

I don't think I'm going to wear much jewellery but will have to think of something to borrow...hmm.

    New - my dress

Old - my dad died when I was a teenager so I'm going to hang a necklace he wore from my bouquet.

Borrowed - my cousin is lending me a pearl bracelet.

Blue - when my partner's brother got married I noticed his mum gave the bride a (quite tacky) plastic horse shoe, so I am hinting to my partner that he should get one of these in blue to give to his mum to give me! (Cheeky I know!) https://www.etsy.com/ie/listing/85097477/. I'll wear a blue garter or underwear just in case he doesn't sort this out!

Old- I wore my nans wedding ring on my right hand, she died when I was 8 and my dad gave it to me on the morning of the wedding, AFTER I had my make up done silly man!?

    New- DRess, shoes, everything.

Borrowed- My nieces lipgloss shoved into my bra last minute before we left for the church, as I forgot this one!

Blue- My garter had a blue bow on it.

H's mum gave me a silver sixpence for my shoe, which I lost during the photos as I took my shoes off as the grass was wet! Ooops!

I always forget about this last part of the rhyme so I looked it up myself: A sixpence was placed in the shoe to bring the couple wealth in their married life. Some brides still place a penny in their shoe during the marriage ceremony (found this on http://www.weddings.co.uk/info/tradsup.htm)

My dress will be my 'new' and I'm thinking a garter for my 'blue', but I can see me forgetting to borrow something and I'm not sure what my old will be ?

Something that has been quite popular with past brides was to have the wedding date embroidered in blue thread on the inside hem of their dress.

A fab idea I think, if you don't fancy a garter.

    New is obviously my dress

something old is my granny's eternity ring which I inherited when she died. It also covers blue as it has sapphires on it, will be incorporating into my bouquet as it no longer fits my finger Smiley sad put on weight since i was 17 obviously haha

My something borrowed is my cousin's underskirt, i had no idea until the other night when she asked if i wanted to use it to save some money, I know its not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it covers my something borrowed so Im happy with that!
