Old / New / Borrowed / Blue?

50's pin up bride, 23 May, 2012 at 21:01 Posted on Planning 0 31

What are you / did you do for yours?

I *thought* I was sorted for my 'old' and 'borrowed' as I was going to wear my Nan's sparkly bracelet, but both my parents and H2B have bought me really special bracelets as wedding presents - they have all said I don't HAVE to wear them on the day, but the bracelet from my parents has Corinthians engraved around it (which mum is reading) and my H2B has bought me a pandora bracelet and charm, which he has banned me and anyone else from filling and he is going to buy me a charm every anniversay ❤️ so it's also really special and I want to wear it!

'New' is easy - it's everything else!

Any suggestions for borrowed / blue / old?! (Ideally all 3 in one!)

Sorry can't help, as I still need old and borrowed too and the sixpence for my shoe!

My blue is my colour scheme so I'll have blue flowers and also having a blue ribboned garter!

But traditionally think you're supposed to have an individual item for each thing not that you have to of course just thought I'd mention it! x

My borrowed AND blue is my sister's tiara (it was her blue when new nearly 10 years ago) so technically it would be old too!

My old is my "temporary engagement ring" - its a family heirloom my OH proposed with but he had designed a modern ring with my favourite gemstone. I am also having an old sixpence (one of a coin collections my dad left me) in my bouquet - I don't want it in my shoe as per the last line of the saying as I want to see it to remind me of him

But love the idea of borrowing your nan's old blue knickers!

Unfortunately my Nan died about 20 years ago and I doubt my mum kept her old blue knickers ? but funny idea! I wondered about borrowing someone's old blue garter, but although I've been to loads of friends' weddings, nobody has ever worn a garter! (And I probably won't unless it becomes my borrowed).

My Mom said I could borrow a necklace of hers, which was old, had a blue pendant and would be borrowed, but I found a selection of jewellery that all matched so I'm not sure at the moment, as it's all silver and my Mom's necklace is gold I think. Blue is my theme so that'll be covered everywhere. New is everything lol. But I am also stuck on the old and borrowed, unless I go with my Mom's necklace really...

My garter is blue, my FMIL gave me her necklace, this is my something old and my FSIL gave me matching earings (the ones she wore at her wedding) and this is my something borrowed. Borrow someone's old necklace (this is a 2 in 1) and a blue garter or knickers lol Unless you could borrow a little old, blue brooch to wear, or something for your hair???

I am struggling with my something borrowed.

    So far I have:

    Something blue = my garter

Something new = everything I am wearing

Something old = my nan's wedding ring (she died when I was two and my mum gave me her ring that was being saved for me last year).

I think something borrowed is the hardest part...

I have finally sorted 'blue'! OH has wanted a hipflask for ages, and I've been wanting to get him an extra wedding present, so today I've ordered a blue hipflask with our wedding date engraved and "Bring the 'something blue!'" also engraved on it. I just hope he remembers it!

I'm still to sort my borrowed and old. I'm wondering if my ER counts as old, as it's a vintage ring - although not passed down through out family. I'm going to have to talk to mum about borrowing something I think, but not sure what as all my jewellery is sorted (she wanted to lend me pearls) although wondering if pearls could be incorporated into my hairstyle without looking OTT / risking damaging them.

    New - everything

    Blue - also everything!

Old - finally got sorted a couple of weeks ago. I have an anklet which I wear every summer, it's just a plain silver linked chain. I've added some charms to it and will wear it on the day

Borrowed - was going to be my sister's garter, then on my hen do, at our knicker making class, all the hens made me a garter, so I'd like to wear that - can I wear two?!

    I'm struggling with borrowed too:

Old- A locket my Dad bought for my Mum when they were "courting", she gave it to me to put photo's of my grandparents in (who have all passed away since getting engaged), I'm going to have it tied into my flowers.

New- Dress and Everything else really

    Borrowed- ???

Blue- I have the "I Do" stickers for the soles of my shoes.

I haven't even hardly got anything confirmed for the wedding yet, but I already kind of know what my o/n/b/b will be (this may change!):

Old: A tiffany bracelet that OH's family got me for my 21st (so not really old old, but it's not new!)

    New: Dress, shoes

Borrowed: My friend is letting me borrow her veil (hopefully it will go with whatever dress I choose) Also, my Mum's pearl earrings that she wore on her wedding day.

Blue: My engagement ring is a sapphire, so lovely and blue.

Is it possible to 'borrow' some earrings from someone? Tie an old hanky inside your dress? Sorry, I don't have many ideas, I'm stuck too on what to have. I have blue in my garter, but old and borrowed are a problem. Do you have an old necklace or something you could tie into the bouquet?

I've sorted my borrowed - I'm wearing my Mum's ruby and diamond eternity ring that Dad bought her for their Ruby wedding anniversary. I shall only wear it for the ceremony and then give it back, as I know she'll be feeling naked without it!

I have a sixpence for my shoe from the year my parents married so that together with my vintage ER has old covered. Phew!
