Old New Borrowed Blue

eeyoring, 27 May, 2012 at 23:01 Posted on Planning 0 10

I totally forgot about this and now am wondering how people go about fulfilling these, particularly the old and the borrowed bit?

I've got a million things for new but so far have not sorted the others.

What are you using? Did people give you things for the old and the borrowed and if they have did they volunteer them or did you have to ask?

This is the only tradition (other than not seeing me before the service) that is important to me. Cant believe I nearly forgot. Ive got 25 days to get this sorted.

Don't know if this helps any but:

    Old: Shoes

    New: Dress, jewellery etc

Borrowed: My mum's good luck pin, going either on my flowers or inside my dress.

    Blue: My dress!

Borrowed - my sister's tiara from her wedding. It was her blue as some of the stones are blue. I was going to borrow her shoes but they were too tight. You can borrow small things like a hankie to sew into your dress or a hair grip, perfume/make-up etc

Old - my 1st engagement ring which is a family heirloom but my OH had designed a bespoke ER for me which we had made. I am also having one of my dad's old sixpences in my bouquet so I can see it

    Blue - on the garter

New - easiest as its dress, shoes etc

Don't forget the sixpence for your shoe! Good luck with your search for borrowed & old

Blue - I have a garter which has blue in it but I feel a bit silly in it so would like a back up

The sixpence in your shoe is to bring you wealth!

Im having my grans bible as my something old although I'm not religious but it was her wish before she passed away, new is my dress shoes etc, borrowed is my sixpence from my mil and I haven't got blue yet so I'm going to get some blue ribbon and stitch a bow into my garter as that's just plain ivory!

Old - pearl bracelet my dad bought me when I was about 12

    New - dress etc

Borrowed - grans, mum's and great-gran's WRs attached to my bouquet

Blue - have some blue on my garter. But my OHs colours are royal blue, so he is my something blue!

    Not bothering with sixpence.

Blue is my theme, so there will be lots of blue around, I'm probably going to have blue on my garter.

    New - everything haha.

Old and borrowed - not sure. My Dad left me a special coin of some sort in his will, but so far I don't think it's turned up. Hopefully we can find it and I'll have it on my bouquet or something, and that can be the old. Then just borrowed! My Mom has offered me a necklace to wear, but it's gold whereas the rest of my jewellery is silver, so I'm not sure yet...

With only 25 days to go I'd try drop it into conversation with your parents/other family. Ask them what they had for their old/borrowed/blue etc and casually mention you don't know what you're having and hopefully they'll mention if they're planning on giving you anything.

    Old - my mum's veil

    New - dress etc

Borrowed - I'll probably borrow some of my gran's jewellery from my aunts

Blue - not got one yet but probably a garter

New - the standard lot, dress etc.

Old/borrowed/blue - one of my Nanny's pendants, a blue stone in gold, sewed into my brooch bouquet.

I couldn't have given a fig about this tradition but it seemed important to my Mum, who gave me the stone.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've emailed my sister and she thinks she may have a sixpence that belonged to my Nan so I may borrow that and kill two birds with one stone. Hopefully I'll feel Okay wearing the garter and that'll be my blue. Otherwise I'll keep thinking on the blue bit.
