OMG what am I supposed to do about this cake lol! **flashy**

septemberbride2011, 18 February, 2011 at 13:58 Posted on Planning 0 9

This is the standard cake you get abroad - haven't a clue what I'm meant to do with it to make it look nicer! I was going to email the hotel to see if they could leave it plain (not put the swags and bows on it and leave the cheesy couple off the top) and take a cake topper (fushia flowers) along with us, other than that I'm stumped!

Any suggestions are welcome, this is the downside of getting married abroad lol! x

Yes it would definitely look better without all the fiddly bits on. Can you show them a plain(ish) picture of one you like and as them to replicate it maybe?

The swags around the bottom are potentially hiding the rough edges on the cake. I would suggest taking some ribbon to wrap aroung the bottom. Ribbon and your cake topper would be more than enough I would think.

Good idea about the ribbon :-) I think I'll take some out and match with the bridesmaids dresses. I'd love to have just a plain round cake, we've bought our own bride and groom to sit on the edge but can decide on the day whether to take them or not.

I might have a chat with the wedding co-ordinator when we get out there see if we can have a plain round cake, square would be fine but no fussy bits - think the cake decorator would be quite pleased about not having to do fussy bits! x

Defo go without the frills and agree about the ribbon.

Hubby and I got married in Thailand, just the 2 of us and then when we got home a week later, we did it all again with everyone there, a church, reception etc! Anyway, I wanted to share with you our Thai wedding cake which was mega garish to say the least but it tasted amazing, like no other cake I have had before (or after!).

I hope seeing mine makes you feel better about yours ?

Aww dear lol! There must be an unsaid rule about wedding cakes abroad to make them as fussy as possible. At least you had a lovely wedding and the cake isn't really that important, I just want to be prepared for it! x

I think taking a flower or ribbon to match the BM's is a good idea, or you could ask if they have a stand to put it on to raise it up a bit. think of it as part of the experience of being married abroad - its not like any wedding cake i've seen before lol. and taking ur own toppers is a good idea too.

I've ordered a cake topper and will get some ribbon or something similar to go around the base just incase. I might email the hotel or take print outs of plain cakes with me to show the wedding planner how plain I mean! I doubt they'd start making the cake until I got out there (the wedding will be a week after we arrive so hopefully should have time to sort it out!)

Thankfully we're not taking it home with us! x

I didnt have a "proper" wedding cake abroad, I made up for it when I got back....

I'd ask them to leave the topper off and just have it plain with ribbon, and take your own topper! x
