OMs - AC maybe? - sweetheart table?

pandorasbox, 7 May, 2012 at 13:57 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

I had a weird dream about the wedding breakfast, told OH about it and now he has decided that we must have a sweetheart table rather than usual top table. I remember someone here had that and wondered if it was Amnesia Custard and if pics/report were still about anywhere? Have done a hitched search but no luck at the mo. Thanks.

    Yep was me us!

We hadn't necessarily intended to but the layout of the room meant we either had to go for the two of us, or only have a top table of 6 and offend some family.

Anyway. we LOVED it! It gave us some "us" space on the day, but, as aarchk said, we didn't feel removed from the rest of the room. We had a buffet meal - don't know if that made any difference - but we queued up with everyone else for dinner!

I'd totally recommend it - even my H (who rarely has any opinion on things weddingy) says he really loved it too. Result!

Sorry I don't have any pictures, as they are all print ones in our wedding album.

PS, my MIL, on seeing the table set for two, asked if she was on the top table!!!

? only a MIL could say such a thing.

Thanks AC, the more we think about it the more appealing it sounds, and I just knew someone on OT had highly rated having that bit of space together. Our food will not be a buffet though, so hopefully the guests won't feel too isolated from us, and we will circulate between courses anyway. The thought of sitting at a traditional top table looking out on an 'audience' makes me feel a bit funny.

TBH we hadn't planned it that way - we just decided the day before when we took stuff to the pub and discussed the final bits with the pub chappy.

    I say do it.

We had one too. I had a three year old daughter and wanted my sister to give out the gifts during the speeches, so it actually sat four. We were on our own except for the speeches and when my daughter couldn't keep away. I absolutely loved being on our own, I love people watching anyway, and I really felt like I saw everyone having a good time, and tucking in.
My top tip would be to not have a flower arrangement of any great dimensions, on a small table it might look overpowering and also people will want to see you. We had flowers just laid flat kind of interwoven loosely, it looked effective.

Thanks ladies, I think we will do it - as long as OHs dad doesn't think OHs mum will kick off if we now seat him with his girlf rather than on our original top table. ?

Our top table arrangement was going to be low anyway, all of our tables are in fact, as I dislike it when you are blocked from people watching by huge feathers and things in the middle of tables! I have emailed our silk florist to check the ceremony/top table decoration is not going to be a stiff block and only able to go in a straight line. Hopefully she can make it so it is curveable for the round sweetheart table.

Whoo-hoo! ? (for your wedding being so close, not because of a table report!)

Just a quick reply to say that we thought the sweetheart table was fantastic, and would highly recommend it! ?
