Jemima Renrut, 5 January, 2013 at 14:41 Posted on Planning 0 28

Just booked a meeting with florist for next week. Know colours etc but need inspiration for size and type, google ain't giving me what I want so thought some real life inspiration was needed. Thanks!

This was mine, I don't think I ever really specified a size to the florist, just gave her some ideas and she worked some magic.

There are more shots in my report, though some of the photos are now weirdly squished, can't work out why. https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/t/265457.aspx?PageIndex=1

Here's a link to my 'real life Brides' gallery which might help a bit or there's also the section of 'Best Flowers' in the Hitched awards section too.

Oh no, how annoying, I hate flashing ? I have no idea what size my bouquet was, but it turned up a lot larger than I expected. I think it worked OK though as I was going for a bold look anyway.

Thanks for all your replies! I'm about to starting hunting through them :-) I'm bothered about the size because I don't want it too big, so I'd like to be able to show her a photo so she can see I'm not to be swamped in flowers lol.

I REALLY wanted sunflowers (for sentimental reasons for my OH) however in March they're not in season and I'm not sure they'll suit my springtime wedding. I Love them though and have a big bunch (artificial) by the front door of my house.

I'm going to try and put a sunflower somewhere in my venue even if it's artificial as a little nod to OH's nan who he was very close to and frankly one of the nicest women I've ever met.

As a guide, if you have a shower bouquet or trailing bouquet, the dimensions should be 1 third bouquet to 2 thirds height so for example if you are 6ft, your bouquet should measure 24" from tip to toe minimum so it's in proportion to your height. It can be much larger/longer but not really less than this.

I've asked for a bridesmaid size bouquet as I don't want too big, I'm only 5ft so it'd look ridiculous! I'm having hand tied rather than trailing.

Couldn't see where to put a message in with the pics - this is me and my bestie ignoring all advice to hold the bouquet down low! My flowers were everything I wanted - roses, freesias and daisies in an informal arrangement - no idea what size they were though!

My bouquet was real flowers, ivory roses and freesias, with bits of blue ribbon weaved in to tie into the bridesmaids colour Smiley smile

Thanks for all your flashes they all look lovely! Mini I think yours with your bridesmaids has summed up how I want the bridesmaids to be a smaller version of mine, and its a great pic btw. I can't quote but the lady that said informal arrangement describes what I'm going for. As for colours its an autumn mix of reds and oranges and berries with a main colour being plum. Hand tied with either raffia or Hessian. Then OH has said he would like a bright colour in his buttonhole so this may sound strange but I have pics saved on my phone which I cant flash, my bouquet and his buttonhole will have hints of lime green leafage or something like that. Just a little bit. He wants all the men to wear lime green socks they can flash lol. Then everyone else will have the sane flowers but smaller and no lime.

We had silk ones, real ones apparently tend to be mismatched even when in season. I wanted the pure yellow ones, not the orangey-yellow. It worked out cheaper for us too. I think sunflowers can suit any season wedding! Though obv am biased on this Smiley smile

I have about 10 silk sunflower heads spare if you need them for any reason. They are the ones I had on my ceremony table, not exactly fancy decor but added a nice splash of colour:

Meh, for some reason a lot of my brides were white rose girls, all really really similar! One did white roses with hints of pink, another with more pink and purple, the asian on had diamantes in the middle of the roses and I think the last was straight forward white roses! Hope that helps!
