OM's - have you all had your dresses cleaned?

Weather Girl, 6 November, 2009 at 14:40 Posted on Planning 0 6

I want to get my dress professionally cleaned and then have it boxed up so that a) it's kept in good condition and b) so it's out of the way.

I thought about just taking it to a dry cleaners but is that really the best option? I have come across a couple of websites where you send it away to be cleaned and boxed up, but it looks quite expensive, and another where I can just order a box and acid free paper to pack it away myself after it's cleaned. Do any of you have any suggestions or recommendations?

TIA

    Hi

I had to get my dress cleaned as it is second hand (haven't actually worn it yet). I used a company in West London called Perry de Montaignac. I paid £75 to have it cleaned only (obviously I didn't want it boxed as i'm not getting married until next year). Price varies depending on cost of dress and whether its boxed or not. They were fantastic, everything from their customer service to the actual cleaning. My dress had what looked like a large red wine stain and it came back looking like new. They arranged a courier collection and delivery and it came back in a box with acid free paper even though I hadn't paid for it. From other places I'd look at the prices seemed very competitive and I couldn't fault them at all.

Fiona - I totally agree with this whole name changing process! It's so long winded.

Baz - thanks for that, I'll have a look at them.

I asked the same question a while ago so if you do a search you might find the responses I got. In the end I chucked it up the loft in the dress bag and then in a cardboard box! Hardly the best way to treasure something so expensive but I needed it out of the way for now and will get it cleaned and boxed up properly when I win the lottery as it's so expensive.

Nope nearly 18 months later it still hung up on my door absolutley filthy (and I mean filthy!). I actually checked it a couple of days ago to check the lace hadn't gone green or something after all that time. Its still fine. I will prob get round to having it cleaned just not sure when.

Reason I replied was to say that the Aliya Rose girls recommended Perry de Montaignac to me like Baz says and that is who I will be going with when I get it done as they collect and return it I think. I've heard some negative reviews about Johnsons The Cleaners though for wedding dresses.

Mine is with a professional cleaner at the moment. It's costing £95 to be cleaned boxed and wrapped in acid free tissue, and an extra £25 for collection and delivery.

I just wanted it to be clean and safe so I could put it away.

I can give you the details of you'd like them

Thanks again for all the replies ladies.

I think I've got a pretty good idea of the cost involved now but it's good to know that PDM has got 2 recommendations so I'm tempted to go with them. Thanks for that Lisa ?
