OMs - others that are more beauty-savvy than me - Tan and Nails - what order did you do things in??

brideseekingblush, 10 June, 2010 at 10:13 Posted on Planning 0 14

Ladies,

I've realised I need to book a tan and nails trial (going to have a spray tan) and was going to book them at the same place, and then realised I didn't know waht order to do things in. Obviously my hands'll be all gunky after the tan and I won't want them putting cleansing cream on them, but if I do the nails before might they get sprayed/mussed up? I'm planning on a french polish if that makes a difference! I guess perhaps have the nails done the day after?

I was thinking the EXACT same thing yesterday...

Last time i had a french manicure i had loadsa moisturiser, chemicals and an arm and hand massage with cream! Obviously they tell you not to moisturise or use products before a spray tan..

similarly you dont want to remove your tan when having your nails done!

What i'm doing is having my nails done the day before so any moisturiser will have sunk in and then i can exfoliate properly...

Hmm - so you don't reckon the tan'll muss the nails then? Anyway, perhaps I'll do that now and see where we get to!

Have your tan done and then have your nails done the next day or so. The spray tan will stain your nails if your not careful.

Thanks Aimee - I'll try that - perhaps I can have the the tan on the Friday (for the Sunday) and the nails on the Saturday...

Edit: thanks tadah! No fear, I'm just going to have a light tan to wash out some of the white!

    Tan first, nails day after.

If you're having your natural nails painted rather than fakes, you could try applying a layer of clear nail varnich for when you have your tan done. Then if your nails do get the tan on, it'll only be on the clear varnish and will be removed when you take the varnish off IYSWIM!

Have to say I hadn't thought of that 1! Mind you I'm thinking of not having a spray tan and going to the sunbed once a week for about 6 weeks before...just to have a natural glow. Is anyone else thinking of doing the same?

I was told the tan had to be done at least 2 days before and then your nails would be done either on the morning or the day before.

    Hope this helps

    Hi there,

Im a qualified beauty therapist, nail technician and spray tan operator with Fake Bake. You really need to ask the therapist as its going to depend on the tan/nail products. However i would advise to have your tan first then nails about 2 days before your wedding day... and tan 3 days before!
