OM's - Would you choose your dress again?

HatTrick, 10 March, 2012 at 23:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 80

Feeling quite weddingy this weekend with VT and Kharv's hen night and Claire's thread.

Would you choose your dress again now? I wouldn't. I would lose loads of weight and get a slinky lacy number.

I'd choose your dress Claire! ❤️

I like the look of fishtail's but how could I have bopped along to Take That in a dress like that??

I was about to type 'no', but I think the honest answer is 'I don't know'! ?

The real reason I chose the dress I did was because it was suitable for the location and the climate. I would have loved a lacey number, but there were only 4 other people at our wedding and one of those had had a lacey number 12 months earlier and I didn't want to feel like a copycat (stupidly!). If we'd have got married over here, I'd have had a full on princess style - sooooo not suitable in 90% humidity though!

I guess the real answer is that, if everything were the same, then yes, I suppose I would. Wouldn't stop me looking around to see what else there was though!??

Yes good thinking EF, we need pics please!

Yours is lovely and it really suits you. I think I went too safe with mine and wish I'd been a bit more adventurous. I think because I wasn't happy with my weight, I'd never have found 'the' dress, so I just went with one that was 'ok'.

Yes, I loved my dress and still do! It's a very sparkly a-line strapless number and I would wear it again (not that I'm planning on getting married again!).

Edited to attempt to add pic of dress, not me in it mind!

I've tried your dress on VPL. Well, not your actual dress as it wouldn't fit over my thigh!, but the same design.

Good taste you see!! I originally really really wanted a 50's one like Mini's well I wanted a copy of Audrey Hepburns, but with boobs they looked crap on me. I only tried my dress on to shut my mum up as she wanted to see a long one on me and she cried. Shes not a crier at all. So I got it. I had a bit of a wobble thinking it was too blingy at one point but looking at that pic its really plain!

No, you can't really see the sparkles in that pic but it has them all down the skirt doesn't it?

And yours is lovely too LL. Mine was defintiely lacking bling

Yeah it does, and yours is lovely too. It didnt need bling as it had skirt detail. You look beautiful!

    Thanks VP ?

I think I'd change a lot of things if we did it again. My flowers were boring! I wish I'd had coloured ones. I'd have had the balls to ditch the MOH and I've just have been a lot more organised so that I could relax the day before and the morning.

I dont, I had cream roses but they went with the black and cream theme.

I was mega disorganised on the morning, I didnt have a make up trial and ended up crying and washing off all the make up she did and re-doing it all myself. I looked like a glamour model. And it cost me £60.

I can beat that. My make-up artist cancelled on me the day before so I ended up going to the MAC counter in the Bullring shopping centre. And I was running late, I remember legging it through the shopping centre with my hair all done and my tiara on. Classy!

    Thats awful. What a b!tch!!

Well, this is how comical my life is. I booked this girl 6 months in advance on a reccomendation from a family friend. Didnt know her sirname or where she lived etc. I find out 2 weeks before its actually H's friends GF, who he briefly split from 2 years ago, during which time my mate sha^^ed him!!! No wonder she did my make up rubbish!!!!?

I'm not sure. There was another potential dress which was lovely aswell. I also managed to loose weight between the final fitting and the wedding so on the day my dress was too big around my boobs and I didn't think I looked that great.

I know, in hindsight, that I should have used a different shop. The 1 I used closed a few weeks before, suddenly and without warning. Luckily my dress was with the seamstress & not in the shop, a couple of other brides had to find last-minute replacements.

    Yes!!

I always thought i'd have an uber bling number, but surprised myself by going for one with zero sparkle. I ❤️ it.

I did start out with a visit to a shop so I could try on "dream dress" (found it in the shop 1.5 years earlier when dress shopping with my best mate) - it was MS Philippa (lave sparkle fishtail number) Still love it but it was only in a size 8 and therefore wouldn't go past my thighs so I couldn't see what it looked like. Had to abandon it ☹️

I would also have no hesitation in buying a CHINA dress again!!

PS - HatTrick, just discovered who you are!

I loved my dress - it was exactly what I wanted with all the componants that I wanted - lace beading, lace up back, ruching, train, big skirt, strapless. And I was able to customise it with blue beads - I would definately chose it again. Thinking about doing a flash the dress shoot, but its a lot of money.

I haven't got married yet, but if I did it again I would get a dress with a corsetted back. I have a zip up back but I love the dress so much I don't mind that it has a zip up.

    Yes I would.

    Shameless flash:

The only thing I would change is this: I lost some weight to get into it, but lost a teensy bit too much and the dress was too big around the boobs. In the evening I used some tit tape to hold it up, but I wish I'd put the tape on in the morning. The photo above was taken just after the ceremony and I was showing a bit more cleavage than I would have liked! Apparently when I walked in, two completely separate sets of friends whispered "nice tits"!

I've asked but it would mean losing all the buttons at the top of the back of the dress, and then it may not suit the bottom of the dress, as the dress has a funny bit at the back ... shameless link to my flash of my dress: https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/t/286488.aspx

ETA: There is also the middle of the back where I would lose a lot of the pretty detail, you can't see it on those pics because it is hidden in my fat, but now I have lost weight it looks brilliant.

Nope. There was always a dress I loved more and I regret getting carried away and ordering the one I did instead of buying the one I loved. It is the only thing I would change about my wedding.

    My dress:

The one I should have bought:

Yes, but I would have bought a 2nd dress to change into in the evening. It was a boiling hot day and my ddress had a million skirts - by the 1st dance I felt like I was going to pass out! Something like this maybe:

Maybe if I had sometihng a bit more supportive I wouldn't have flashed everyone on the dance floor ?.
