On line gift list management?

milna, 5 September, 2008 at 12:23 Posted on Planning 0 1

I mentioned in a previous post that I hope to have a fairly 'old fashioned' gift list - i.e. all sorts of different things from different stores, available on request, and administered by someone who will remove items from the list when people contact to say what they intend to buy. Not a list set up with one shop and all purchases made through that.

Is there any kind of online management service for this?

I don't want a website through which people can actually make purchases/contribute money - just one where people can see a list of what we want and 'tick off' what they intend to buy. Any ideas?

    Hi Milna

Bearing in mind I got married 16 years ago so mine is an old fashioned way of doing it but . . . my mum was in charge of the gift list and we simply had a little note book that was passed around family and friends if they asked - each page had an item written on it and the guests just tore the page out of the for gift they wanted to buy. There was no pressure - it was just there if anyone asked what to buy us. Perhaps you could do a similar idea with an emailed spreadsheet that can be easily updated?

I used www.whattogive.com and people 'promise' an item. you can list things which aren't online as well as online item & ask for contributions to bigger things or gift vouchers. If you list an online item you can link to the shop which makes it easy for people. It's worked really well for us as we got items from lots of different shops.

ETA - you don't have to put things up which are online and you don't even have to be that particular about what you want e.g. you could put up that you want white bath towels, but since you don't have to link to a site you don't have to say which brand you want etc.
