On THE day silly worries...OMs was it an issue

cherrybloom, 31 May, 2013 at 22:56 Posted on Planning 0 27

So as I lay in bed and the mind wonders about the big day, I have had some random "concerns" for want of a better term and wanted to know from the OM's if they were valid or just plain stupid..so I have got my big girl panties on ready to be told I am silly... but let me know if they were even an issue or crossed your mind..

Excessive sweating = BO - I don't sweat a lot and of course I shall have shower/bath in the morning but just thinking about all of that xxtra material, walking up and down etc isn't it a given

Hayfever - eyes itching, sneezing, runny nose

Migraine from the excitement

Aunt Flo visiting (TMI I know)

maintaining the make-up

Gravy/food/drink down the front of the dress ( I'm a bit sloppy sometimes)

Toilet visits

All silly and a little superficial but what can I say, they just came to mind! ?

Did any of you deal with think of these, do you have any minor concerns

I worry about all sorts when laying in bed! Think it's normal. I worry I will catch a cold and be snotty on the big day...I suffer from eczema and worry I will have a flare up...food poisoning from dinner the night before...hayfever...etc etc. Bit when am being rational I tell myself that on such a big day, I will be so excited that none of the above will worry me or get me down! See this is what I always say, on the day, you won't care. You really won't. I forgot to do things I wanted to, not everything went smoothly, but I didn't care. Brides to be stressing about colour schemes, ugly chairs, seating plans, how many canapés to have etc etc make me laugh. On the day you won't notice or care about any of it.

As for your concerns, nearly all can be sorted out with a visit to Boots! Oh, and a napkin.

I won't tell you that you're being silly, I'm sure every bride worries about random little things that they think are stupid, I know I did!

Sweating - I'd get one of those little bottles of deodorant and give it to a BM/family member to carry around in their bag for you so you can have a little spray if needed! I didn't have this issue but I'm not a generally 'sweaty' person anyway, nice...

Hayfever - Buy tablets! My sister had this issue on my wedding but she was fine

Migraine - Again, tablets! I was worried about this, I haven't had a migraine for about 4 years, but they come out of nowhere and completely floor me for 2 days, so I understand this one.

Aunt lo - I had this concern too, luckily she was kind enough to wait. Until the day I went on honeymoon, brilliant.

Food spilling - I had this too, I am so clumsy! I had one napkin down the front of my dress and one on each knee. It didn't look classy, but it kept my dress clean! It's lucky I had them, I knocked a fork covered in gravy onto my knee!

Toilet visits - I had this worry too, especially since my dress was quite massive! It was fine honestly, I just took my sister in with me to hold the back of the dress up and went in face forward. It was surprisingly easy!

    You will be fine honestly!

Hayfever- I made sure I took tablets every day on the run up to the wedding to endure they were in my system. I also had a bag of essentials including my inhalers, tissues and painkillers with the wedding coordinator if I needed them.

food/drink I used a napkin and was very careful as I ate. I did have a slightly brudezilla moment where I shouted at a friend to not hug me holding a glass of red wine but apart from that all was good.

i worried about silly little things too but honestly it will all be fine.

Aunt Flo- if you are on the pill just time it so you are not. If not your gp can give you tablets to stop the arrival.

make up- my Mua did a fab job and most of it stuck like glue. I topped up my blusher in the room turnaround when my Cbm and I went up to our room to take my veil out.

can't help with the dress I'm afraid as I had a tea length!

    hth.

Sweating - use Mitchum or another strong antiperspirant, not just a deodorant.

Hayfever - take some non-drowsy antihistamines.

    Migraine - no recommendations, sorry.

Period - tablets from doctor to delay it (noresthistone).

Makeup - mine seemed absolutely stuck to my face, at least until late enough that I didn't care. You will get a good idea at your trial of the sticking power of the brands/products you'll have on (I went out after my makeup trial!).

Food- use a napkin. Use a napkin. Use a napkin. I dropped a piece of (bright red) beetroot into my lap and was only saved my napkin. Use a napkin. Sit up or slightly forward on your seat such that you are over the table. You may find that you eat very sparingly anyway, and there certainly won't be any messy rush.

Toilet visits - no advice, my dress didn't present any difficulties.

Bibs are only useful if food can drop down your front. You shouldn't be leaning back so far in a chair - and you won't want to in your dress anyway - that this is the main issue. Of course, if you 'splash' your food around, you might need one, but for one day only, try to eat like a lady! Your lap is the most obvious danger zone.

Just one thing about this, I went to the GP and got the tablets that begin with N to delay my period, but when I looked into it, they can make migraine symptoms worse so I didn't take them in the end. Something to bear in mind if you do go for this option, though there's maybe alternative tablets that may not affect it.

The hayfevere amongst your other tips are good, I didn't think about the hayfever tip, but it makes sense, I'll just make sure I get the non-drowsy one!

The brand name of the most common OTC non-drowsy antihistamine is loratadine. You can buy the supermarket/pharmacist's own brand for about a quarter of the price of the flashy big name ones and it's exactly the same. You can also add a hayfever nasal spray like Beconase (or own brand equivalent) for extra help, but you have to use that regularly beforehand, rather than just start it that day.

I deliberately chose my wedding date to avoid the risk of having bad hayfever on the day.

Excessive sweating = I used to sweat badly using a can deo, but changed to a 48 hour roll on or cream, this worked a treat never an issue on the day - swaeting not related to underarms - my mum and sister used talc, bit of a tradition now as it was my mums grans talc, weird i know but i am going to humour.

Hayfever - I find that with my allergies that the nasal strays are getting better than the tablets, in fact i usually end up using both when seeing friends with Cats.

Migraine from the excitement - Migraleve - but if your affected by migranes - then you may not find a GP will put you on the pill possibly mini pill or other form of contraception as it can cause strokes.

Aunt Flo visiting- it happens just take supplies - remember you have the rest of your lives together.

maintaining the make-up - Primer before, Powder and lippy - held by girl of the moment or designated

Gravy/food/drink down the front of the dress ( I'm a bit sloppy sometimes) - A friend made a Bridal Pinny for her in Ivory - but again Napkin napkin napkin.

Toilet visits - I was my sisters designated had to hold the dress up while she went, really odd but appoint your designated , there can be more than one -

Sweating - Heavy duty antiperspirant. Ask your GP about prescription stuff if you're particularly worried.

Hayfever - Non-drowsy antihistamines. Don't stick your nose in your bouquet if you can help it.

Migraine - Have medications with you, and take them at the first symptom. I find caffeine helps with it- coffee works best for me, but diet coke works in a pinch.

Period - Ask your GP about norethisterone. If you've taken the pill before and had no major issues while on it and your blood pressure is okay, you'll likely do fine on it. If you don't want to delay it, there's a variety of medications that can make the bleeding far less severe/painful. I've had three women in about delaying periods for weddings already this summer, it's a pretty common issue.

Makeup - Primer and good quality products seems to be key here. I'm a bit worried about this one myself.

Food- Use a napkin. Use two. Drape yourself in a sheet, if necessary. Lean forward, cut things up small, use a napkin. Napkins are your friend.

Toilet visits- This is where bridesmaids come in handy. I've been a bridesmaid 842 million times (approximately) and holding up the dress so the bride can pee is pretty standard. Two glasses of wine and nobody cares anymore, basically. If your dress is quite light, you might be able to manage on your own. Use the biggest bathroom/stall you can find.

Basically, make an "emergency kit". Put it in a nice handbag, and give it to your bridesmaid/mum/mother-in-law to look after. Medications you might need/want, deodorant for top-ups, needle and thread, plasters, oil blotting papers, whatever else you fancy. Chances are you won't need anything out of it, but knowing it's there will soothe your mind. And honestly, I doubt you'll worry about much of it on the day, but being prepared is never a bad thing.

I'm not yet married, but, bridesmaid 842 million times. I've got the emergency kit down to a fine art at this point.

Wondered what this was at first. She's due the day before mine. Unfortunately the pill makes me crazy depressed, to the point of not being able to work and eventually attempting suicide. I'm going to buy a spare dress.

You might laugh but my worse experience in a wedding was a bride who demanded to have a doctor there through all the day sho she will be sure nothing wrong will happen to her and she will get married!Smiley smile She was lovely but perhaps the most panicking person I ever met :d

Boots sell 99p loratadine tablets in their "value" range (and they're buy one get one half price) called "one-a-day" hayfever pills, different than their regular hayfever ones which are ceterizine. I would reccomend if you're going to start a new type of hayfever pills start them a while before the big day - you never know how pills will affect you and it's best not to risk it on the day!!

I get really bad hayfever, bad enough that i'm having a synthetic bouquet and only synthetic flowers on the tables at the reception, no matter how much pills etc I use I still end up sneezing!

Excessing sweating - YES! I'm gonna take some deoderant to the venue the day before I think. Take the smaller ones like travel size ?

Hayfever - I dont suffer so should be ok! Take a piriton just incase?!

Migrane - I dont overly suffer with but suffer anxiety so worried about that exploding! Ha.

Aunt Flor visiting - I dont need to worry about that!

Maintaining Makeup - I barely wear it anyway so don't really care (unless i end up like a panda!)

Gravy/food/drink down my dress - More worried about my dress ripping, zip breaking etc!

Toilet visits... Very worried! Im quite a private person and dont like the thought of people helping me to the loo... not even my sister!

My biggest worry (if thats the right word) is being centre of attention. Im a plain jane fade into the background I hate to be looked at so all eyes on me is freaking me out a little!

Sweating wasn't a problem that I noticed - did wear stockings despite heat as having chunky (aka thunder) thighs for width of my hips (still size 10/12) chafing can be an issue in skirts without (TMI possibly). Choice of stockings over tights related to the toilet visit issue as pants can go over suspender belt so no need to wrestle with tights and dress.

Hayfever - although I suffer a bit, the time of year was one that is usually not a problem - piriton generally helps enough though.

Migraines - not an issue for me- sorry.

Aunt Flo - Norethistazone. Worked fine but had PMT from hell when I came off it, mini pill didn't like me at all (tried after the event).

    Make up stayed put fine.

Ate carefully and only drank white wine.

Toilet - had big dress with long train but managed alone - loos were clean, so entered loo forwards and straddled it rather than sat in the normal way. Couldn't shut door so picked cubicle not pointing at door... Do remember to check you haven't taken the loo roll with you on exit - I managed to acquire my step-mum's discarded shoe at some point during the day and only realised when exiting the bathroom and thinking I'd caught a loo roll!

Touching on the wine thing, last Saturdays bride had Red wine tipped on her dress and they put White wine on it. Now I've heard of this working but it really did!! I couldn't see where it had been.
