One for the ladies (Sorry Funky) Period Pain!

(Claire), 4 September, 2013 at 11:26 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 19

I suffer terribly, to the point where it wakes me up in the middle of the night, the pain is just excruciating. I used to keep it at bay with Ibuprofen but this doesn’t seem to work anymore. I only suffer for the first 2 days and then I’m ok again. Do any of you ladies struggle? What do you take? Any other remedies you have that relieves the pain?

I don't get Period Pain anymore, but a hot water bottle used to help. Obviously not that great for at work though...

Those heat patches are good for work. Expensive though. Normally Joeycat comes and lays on my tummy.

Mine was resolved with a coil, not had a period for 12 years, therefore no pain. Bit extreme though and I'm done having kids.

If you don't mind my asking, what's the bleeding like? If it's very heavy, then I'd go to the doc as I used to suffer similarly and it was quite easily resolved.

The first day or two of my periods I literally feel like I'm going to die. You can usually find me curled up in a ball with chocolate and a hot water bottle, rattling from the amount of paracetamol, ibuprofen and buscopan I take, and hissing at anyone that comes near me, especially if they have a penis. The buscopan really helps the cramps, the chocolate really helps the OH.

I tried going on the pill to ease it, apparently any hormone I take makes me a neurotic freak and the last one I tried made me bleed every 2 weeks. Also, don't want to go there again since I'm potentially going to want to get up duffed at some point after the wedding.

My issues were solved by going on the pill.

I used to get terrible pains to the point where I almost fainted once and used to be sick.

As soon as I went on the pill things got lighter and a lot less painful. Thank god!

I feel your pain (literally right now.) The only thing I find that helps is warmth and curling up in the foetal position. Like Pompey said, having a cat helps, wish I still did.

Thanks for all your replies ladies.

Sange I used to be quite heavy well at least for the first few days but since my Laparscopy 2 months ago my period is actually a bit lighter which is weird. I think I'll try the heat pads and the ibuprofen with parcetamol combination.

Panj a few people suggested the coil but I don't like the idea of never having a period I know it sounds weird. I don't know how that would fair with IVF either?

I used to take Mefanamic Acid for period pains, makes them lighter too. You would need to check about whether they will interfere with IVF tho, I know I cant take them now I'm TTC. x

Thanks Rod. I doubt I'd be able to take them in all honesty. I've got 2 months now to get myself all "healthy" and get properly prepped ready for the IVF so I don't want to take anything I've never taken before and risk it having some sort of effect.

I took one of the acids, think it was mefenaminc. It didn't help my pain and made the blood really dark and thick. Was nasty.

I agree with the ibuprofen/paracetamol combo. Heat packs work well too. The microwaveable ones are best for me because you can get them nice and hot and right against your skin.

When I had a Mirena coil I still had periods; not everyone doesn't have them.

When I started using the Mooncup my period pains dropped off quite a bit, not really sure why. Also I'm aware that most people think they're gross, but I've never had any problems with mine at all.

I'm not sure as I've not had a period in years through having the implant, but the pain killer that works best for me is co-codamol, only to use for a few days but i'd imagine they'd keep you ok while having them. I had painkillers with ibuprofen in them too when I just had my son and they worked wonders n took the pain away quickly. Hope you find something, nothing worse x
