One month to go - What are your top tips and useful nuggets?

clarabella1972, 7 March, 2012 at 20:02 Posted on Planning 0 22

I have one month to go and am compiling my final to do list and shopping list. I thought I would try and stimulate a group brainstorm...

- What did you do that really helped?

- what thing or task did you forget that you wish you had remembered?

- what would you do differently if you had your time again?

- what cunning plan or idea have you hatched to help the big day go more smoothly?

I'm afraid I can't offer much in the way of my own wisdom, but I have bought the new havaiana wedge flipflops to slip on under my dress later on and i have also hired a babysitter to keep an eye on my kids and put them to bed when they are past it. Those ideas won't win the nobel prize for innovation, but still...?

April can still be a little bit wet with soft/muddy ground. If you have a venue that has grounds that you really want to use, have some spare shoes/wellies that can be hidden under the dress in order to get to those difficult yet great locations.

April showers??? brollies at the ready? Can also make for some good photography along with the wellies....

Worse case situation, it rains all day. Do you and your tog have a plan B for this scenario? If not, get one as it will make you worry less.

Your dress WILL get dirty. Accept this as a fact and don't be afraid to put it on the ground or you will lose some great photographs.(Most brides realise this although *some* are very protective. Anyhow, dirt marks are easily removed with photoshop?)

And finally....if leaving from home, don't forget your bouquet. A lot of brides do (including my wife)?

Right, Umbrella added to the list. There are some beautiful ones out there.

Are there any other top tips out there or is it all fairly straightforward?

I'm not an OM so have no advice however my mum keeps saying to me "make sure you eat something filling in the morning, because I didn't and then by the time we got to the photographs I was starving". I'm not sure why she keeps telling me this as she'll be there in the morning so will no doubt force feed me something!

My friend who got married last year has advised us to get two copies of our wedding certificate because when (if!) you change your name you have to post it off all over the place and its good to have one that definatly won't get lost in the post- I phoned the registar who told me that you can just ask for an extra when you sign the registry!

If you're getting dressed somewhere different to where you will spend the night, don't forget the dress bag for your dress. I got dressed at home but we spent the wedding night in a local hotel and I forgot to pack the dress bag with my overnight stuff! I looked pretty daft trying to stuff a huge wedding dress with train into FIL's car the next morning!

We got married nearly 3 weeks ago, i think take some time to go through your to do list, we had a very stress free last week and just enjoyed the time off before.

As we left for the venue i had all my things packed so had all jewwlery and shoes together, we put everything in labelled boxes such as thank you cards and gifts etc so i knew where everything was, also i took a box full of soft drinks, crisps and sweets for the night before and morning after etc

On the morning have breakfast i was able to eat no problem and it was good to have something to eat as then didnt eat til 4pm,

Try to remember to get some drinks in you as it can be thirsty work talking to everyone! and hot!!

I ended up getting none of my sweetie buffet as it all went and we asked the venue to keep a quarter of each tier of cake as they were all different flavours back so we could at least have some ourselves and make sure family got some if they didn't on the night.

Try to remember who you want pictures with both professional and we took our own camera so we got the more casual pics but i still managed to forget a few people!

Other than that remember to take the time to look around, i did this during the wedding breakfast its amazing the feeling you get sat there with all your friends and family it was lovely to sit and just take it all in

Make time for you! I got married on a Friday, finished work the Tueday before and on the Wednesday booked myself in for a massage. I also had my wax and nails done. It was lovely to have that definite separation to mark finishing work and the run up to the wedding. Eased out all the aches!

Other than that, when the morning of your wedding comes around, RELAX! If you haven't done it by then, then it probably wasn't important!

    Ok...another one:

It is accepted that it is the brides perogative and tradition to be late for her groom. Being late getting ready for the photographer may though impact on the amount and range of images taken.

So my tip is be ready on time, get the photos done that you want without rushing, and then relax and chill with a glass of bubbly and your family whilst you decide on just how long you want to make your OH wait.?

If your dress is strapless, wear your strapless bra all morning whilst getting ready so you dont have any red marks when you get into your dress and also (no one told me this) hold your bouquet low down for photos so you can see the detail on your dress, I didnt and every photo my dress is hidden! Example:

Also if you are giving sentimental, soppy gifts or cards to parents etc, do this before make up! Its nice to allow an hour or so in the morning to relax and give the cards read the card from OH etc before the madness starts. I gave my Mum her "my beautiful Mum" journal the night before as I knew it would take a while to read and would make her cry!

Along these lines, also wear a cardy rather than a v neck type top that you have to pull over your head to get off, possibly ruining your hair do

    Hi Vannilapod!

Great advice! I LOVE the bridesmaid dress - It's exactly the style (and colour!) I want for my sister. Where did you get it?
