one week in and I'm bummed out at work.

Elixia, 8 January, 2014 at 14:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

No central heating in the offices, so its freezing. Wearing 3 layers, hat scarf and gloves. Thats just the tip of the iceberg (ha! Irony) I've had low morale at work for a year. With miss doom & gloom in the corner spreading office gossip about the upper management calling us 'bums on seats' and 'anyone out of school could do your job' theres no 'real' HR dept just the head of finance.

Christmas was a real treat, no work for 11 days! Now back in throng of things and cold, miserable, angry and all doom and gloom.

I need to get another job.

I felt like this at work for about 5 years, yet stayed.

I finally took the plunge and left last December and have now been at my new job for a year - it was the best decision I have ever made. Please leave and find something else, the grass really is greener!

WEES but also if it is below 16 degrees at your workplace your employers have to maintain it at above that temperature. You shouldn't be dressed up like that to be working unless it is speficially in a chiller or freezer etc

I'm really miserable at work at the moment but with saving for the wedding and applying for a mortgage this year and then hopefully trying for a family next year I don't feel in a position to leave. It sucks.

Kinda feel the same way Bookish, the awful thing is my job is very much a niche. I'm an illustrator and finding full time work is like gold dust. so moving on is very hard. I've thought about retraining, get more qualifications in the hopes to get a better jobs but it narrowing it down to what direction do i want to go in. do i go graphic design, those jobs are always about or do i go for animation and aim big for game design and the like? those jobs those are again gold dust.

I'm a teacher and debating whether I want to carry on teaching or retrain to do something else. The problem with teaching is there is a three month notice period and I don't have time to retrain and work at the same time. I've just seen a teaching job at another school and I'm debating whether to apply. I don't think it's fair on the kids if I don't have the passion, but then I used to love my job and I don't know if it's just my current place of work that is making me feel like this. I just don't want to move and find myself in the same boat. I still love the kids and the actual teaching bit but the politics and paperwork is 'doing my nut in'.

A graphic designer job just opened up down the road, its closer to home I think I might go for it! Brush up the old CV and get a portfolio ready.

You've described exactly how I feel. I've looked at HLTA jobs as an option because I too don't have time to retrain and work at the same time whilst also looking after two small children on my own and maintaining a house that is on the market. There are too many balls in the air for me to juggle and I am seriously worried I am goign to drop them all.

I really feel for you Pittabre. I don't have any children but I work with people I do and see the strain that they are under and the way they often feel guilty for not being able to spend very much time with their children.

Have a look online for the specifics, but by law you're not allowed to stay in a place of work if its below a certain temperature. If they cant provide you with adeqaute heating they cant keep you there as its not healthy.
