Online banking, overdrafts, amount available - HELP.

whitetiger, 9 October, 2008 at 01:21 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

Okay, I am usesless at these things. Never had to go into my overdraft before. My bank have told me I have a £200 overdraft. However when I have checked online it says available balance, being the money I physically have in the account - it doesn't mention the overdraft and whether it is available?

If my rent comes out and the actual cash isn't in there, will my overdraft cover it? As it isn't down as available balance I have no idea and am now wondering if I can go food shopping tomorrow or not.

I have money waiting to go into my paypal account so that I can put it in my actual account but am waiting for it to clear.

The bank I am with is Nationwide if that helps.

Wow I wish I was not so clueless!

    Hello

Im with Tsb and I have an overdraft with them luckily never used it but as far as im aware if i got no money n my account and something comes out it will automatically use the overdraft which when you next get funds it will automatically take back

Obviously they dont want to encourage you to use the Overdraft so probs wouldnt class it as available funds if that makes any sense??

I'm with First Direct and my overdraft does show as available funds so it obviously varies from bank to bank. If you're worried, give your bank a quick call to double check.

Thanks guys. I know its a good thing I have never used it and dont know how it works but for some reason I feel really embarrassed that a) I dont know how it works and b) I'm ashamed that I'm having to but as me and H are on a split I dont want to keep relying on him for money and dont wanna ask him.

Will leave it until my rent comes out - I can scrape by until then and then try and get some cash out I think ?

With Nationwide, the overdraft doesn't show as available funds, but the limit should be in the top right corner near your balances too. so you will be able to go down to -£200 in available funds.

Why don't you just ring your bank and ask them?
