Online wedding dresses

shiningfaery, 28 May, 2012 at 09:59 Posted on Planning 0 8

Is there anyone who has or is buying their wedding dress or bridesmaids dresses online?

I want to save money and get the most out of my budget but am feeling a bit hesitant buying online as I wont get to try it on first. I had thought that maybe I could go to a couple of bridal shops and try on some dresses and get an idea of what suits me and then shopping online for something similar.

I have seen the mass of china based wedding dress stores online too has anyone bought for these? are they good or bad?

Any recommendations or ideas?

Michaela

There are mixed reviews on dresses from China, I will give you my opinion.

The main difference for me is whether you are buying a "cheaper dress made in China" or a "copy of a designer dress made in China".

You are more likely to be disappointed with the latter, especially if you have tried the real deal. There is a reason that they are cheaper. I have seen designer dresses next to China copies and you can see the difference. The structure of the dress is not as rigid, the materials are very different and the details are not as intricate.

But I have also seen some China dresses that were lovely in their own right.

It's a risk that may or may not pay off.

Other alternatives for dresses on a budget would be pre-loved, ex-samples from a bridal shop or a high street dress like Monsoon or BHS.

Thank you Mrs C. I had thought as much and was one of my doubts in buying online is that I would be disappointed in the difference in quality etc. I hadn't thought of the high street really so is another avenue I will investigate.

I've considered this too as we're doing things on quite a tight budget, but I think I'd just be too wary ordering online! Obviously there will be some dressmakers overseas who will do an amazing job, but at the same time there will be a lot of dodgy ones too, so... it's difficult.

I really like the dresses on here - http://www.etsy.com/shop/PixiePocket - but again, the seller lives in New Zealand, so it's a bit of a risk... but one of them is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. Dilemma!

I considered it, on sites like light in a box some brides put pictures of the dress on them and it really doesn't look as nice as it would if it was the real deal. If that makes sense.

Its much better, to save any disappointment to get a dress from a bridal shop.

I am in two minds about the dress as I have seen dresses I really like the look of online and its a picture of the actual dress I am looking at instead of a "designer inspired" picture.

I am a very logical person and I am only going to have this day once so am torn between my desire to have my dream wedding or do I restrict my budget and have a day I wont live to regret by spending the equivalent of a house deposit.

I looked at light in the box and although I like some of their stuff I would probably try and get samples of material and stuff first before ordering.

As this occasion is a very special moment for the bride and groom to keep its memory fresh for whole life it also brings fear and anxiety for the family members to arrange all the things within budget and in a good manner. Wedding planning can seem extremely daunting, but if you divide it into smaller steps and engage others also, then it becomes an easy even pleasant task. Wedding Planning requires a lot of decisions to make, and one of the most important factors is your budget, whether you want to celebrate this occasion to be small or on a big front

I bought my dress on line after trying on the original one in a shop. The website did copies of designers dresses and I was so pleased with the result. It was made to measure, I had to have some alterations done as I'd lost a little weight but I've had so many compliments on it. I Just wanted to say that I know people are wary about shopping from china but mine was a good experience.

I bought my dress from cuttingedgebrides.co.uk and I love it! They will send you out a sample to try on and you just send it back....

I love my dress so it's worth a look and it was a complete bargain!
