Ooops..... cost of our wedding!!!!

Chez2k, 12 July, 2010 at 14:32 Posted on Planning 0 14

I have just totted up what we have spent so far, what my mum and dad have contributed and the remaining bits we have to pay and have suprised myself by how much the wedding has cost us!!!

I thought we had stuck to our budget and that we had done it for about £6000!!! But nope........ more like £12,200!!! ? (there are probably bits that I have forgotten to add on too).

I've shocked myself!

Oooppsss, better not tell h2b!!! He'll not be impressed by my budgeting! ?

Oh dear - I can completely understand how - we set a budget of £6,000 - it's going to be more like £12,000 (I think) and thats me being careful with cash - imagine if I was being frivilous! eeek!

I know!! I just thought I would add it all up out of interest and can't believe it. I thought I had done really well and got some good bargains... but maybe not??

That amount is included all sorts of things, even the little bits and bobs I have bought. I have kept a list since we got engaged.

Never mind... it will all be worth it.

Yep I have one going too - we've hardly got anything organised as yet and already spent a fortune! Not good - poor H2b.

    Does that include your honeymoon?

That sounds about right - to be honest the "real" cost of ours is going to be huge in terms of other resources - not just cash I mean when you take into account days off work / travel costs / phone call costs, updates with family / dinners to discuss it / time spent with suppliers..

    I'm glad I'm not the only one !! ?

That doesn't include the honeymoon. That will be sorted out at a later date. Unfortunately we won't be able to go until later on because I am at uni and have to go back on placement (student nurse ? ) shortly after the wedding.

Will be my next stage of planning after the wedding. So I don't get the wedding blues as bad.

So with the honeymoon included I dread to think what the total will be!!

I haven't added in travel costs, etc. But if I had then it would be a bit more! We have had a few talks over dinner/drinks with family and friends.

I cut back on a few things - like we haven't had wedding cars, videographer, we have done our own invites and my mum makes cakes so it doing ours.

From talking to others I think over shooting the budget often happens, especially if you set the budget before you started pricing things up.

So far we are within our budget but we didn't set it until reception venue was sorted, our budget also doesn't include a honeymoon

We have cut out the videographer, although I have asked H2Bs dad to record the first dance as I have considered the quality of the photography and not that impressed - its an odd shot to take..

We have had cars as I am having church wedding and seperate reception.

i'm the same, to this day - 2 yrs on, i haven't a clue what the total cost of our wedding was, just know we managed to afford it, i think if we knew the final figure, we'd both be shocked!!
