oops! my save the dates have caused confusion!!

amythest76, 23 October, 2010 at 13:49 Posted on Planning 0 16

My oh is always known by his shortened version of his name, but on the std magnets I put his full name first then my name!

his name is pretty common (david/dave) and so far 3 people have asked me when our wedding is and said they cant come as they are already going to another wedding.....turns out they aren't! it was MY wedding std but they assumed it was another friend or friend's son called David because they only ever call mine Dave!!and friends on my side always think of us as Amy and Dave-not David and Amy.....?

Basically none of them read it properly and are now saying things along the lines of "i thought it was wierd as I didnt know xyz's son David even had a girlfriend"?!!!Or "But we don't call him David so we assumed it was our other friend David"!!!!

Dave/David??? Its hardly Rocket science!!

Haha some people just don't think do they lol!

I put both our last names on the save the dates to avoid any confusion. I gave my nan a magnet early and she looked at it, read it.. and asked what it was for. Well it wasn't a reminder for my birthday lol!

Hopefully by the time the invites arrive people may have realised who we are!!

I wonder if lots of David's got happy engagement cards through the door and do not have a clue why!!

Oooh, I hadn't even thoguht of that! Mine's a Dave (David) too, known as Dave but I probably would have used David on our invites, will have to consider whether that may confuse people!! ?

I only gave out a few of my save the date cards after several comments of "what are these?"

Felt a little silly so stopped giving them out!

My friend has been texting me a daily countdown (147 today) so I know that she knows the date!!!

The whole Save the Date thing hasn't yet caught on with the older generation has it lol. My friend's Mum was like "How do I know where to go and what time and who in the family is invited?!".. Erm.. Read it - "FORMAL INVITATION TO FOLLOW!!"

When I gave mine to my MOH her boyfriend said that it didn't say what to save the date for. ?

I just mentioned that if it did, it would be an invitation and not a Save The Date card!

Mine actually read: Save the date! *** *** and *** *** are getting married! 26th November 2011. Formal Invitation to follow.

So I don't really know how anyone can get confused by mine lol, still happens though, d'oh!

Save The Date cards/magnets are an American thing and it has trickled over to here. In theory I think it's a good idea as in advance you can forewarn guests of your day upto a year ahead. The problem which became apparent in the US is; people sent STD cards and the recipients did indeed 'Save the Date', booked time off work etc, then no formal invitation came ! Haha - I've read countless stories of this happening, B2B too excited and sending them out left right and centre and when it came to the actual invitations they decided that the engagement and bridal shower presents were great but their budget didn't now allow some STD recipients to be invited to the actual wedding! Classic. This happened to my American friend.

I'm going to have them by the way but I'll make sure I don't commit the above faux pas.
