opinion on veil appreciated.

pink_tink, 17 February, 2011 at 22:28 Posted on Planning 0 19

Just wondering what everyones opinions on veils are?

I am planning on getting a dress that has quite a bit of detail on the front and a long train but the back is very plain.

What are your opinion on chapel or cathedral veils? I haven`t ever been to a wedding where a bride wore one that long and just wanted to know people's thoughts.

Thank you!

    Hi,

I am thinking of going for a long veil myself, but at the moment thinking of having a single tier one as don't want it over my face.

My dress is quite slim fitting but has a bit of a long train but is plain at the back, I tried a long veil on in the shop and it looked really nice together!

I think with my dress looking quite slim etc the long veil will make it look my bridal, if you know what i mean?

(i put a pic of my dress on here a couple of days ago if you want to have a quick peep see what my dress is like)

    Hiya

I was very anti veils when i started shopping about but i really think they can make the bridal look now and im definatly going to have one! cathedral are lovely and are very traditional..my friend had one last year for her wedding..but i have to tell you it was a stupidly windy day..right on the sea front and the veil was 8ft up in the air because of the wind! so it had to be removed for photos..just something to consider if you are having an outside wedding... but other than that go for it!

    xxx

Your dress is lovely. I`ve just looked at some of your posts... how organised you are with all your planning!

I was recommended a cathedral length veil with my dress with diamantes so the back has detail, I can see her point but so expensive and will only be wearing it in church!

So much to think about! My sister has just text me to tell me I have 68 weeks!

Thanks melly! I hadn`t thought of the wind but probably only wear it in church and my wedding is in June so should be ok, although you never know with the UK!

I love veils totally so I'd say wear one. You can see me in a finger tip length veil on FB http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=65229&id=138437779505448

I am having a cathedral length veil with little diamantes on it. i couldn't get married without a veil! My wedding is in March, so likely to be windy but hey ho. I've seen some fabulous pics with the veil blowing around the bride.

I'm having a veil, when I wear one it makes me feel complete and like a bride for some reason - otherwise I feel like a kid playing dress up when I'm in my dress.

Thank you! I know, just a bit organised hey! he he

Yes think I will only be wearing my veil for the church and then the photos, the veils am looking at have little diamantes on the back also to give it a little bit extra, but agree they are expensive! Am thinking of looking around 2nd hand ones and keeping a look out for when wedding shops have sales etc on!

68 weeks!!!! it will soon come round!! which dress have you gone for?

If I am honest I think I would have liked to wear a veil. However, I am not as young as I once was and at age 39 I thought I might be pushing my luck a bit IYKWIM. Also, my common sense head kicked in when I saw the price and had a reality check on just how long something that had cost that much would be worn for.

    Thanks everyone.

The dress I tried on was this one, it is a benjamin roberts dress and it looks better in real life! http://www.benjaminroberts.co.uk/images/products/2166xjc_newcopy.jpg

but I also really like this one, a mori lee dress, but I haven`t tried it on https://www.lafleurbridal.co.uk/www/images/4808L.jpg

    What do you think?

I`ve had a look on ebay at veils and there are loads of 2nd hand ones. To save me 200 I might just do that!

Both dresses are gorgeous! And when I went trying dresses on i was stuck between a Benjamin Roberts and a Mori Lee, the dress I now have however is actually a Maggie Sottero - BUT it is the same dress as the Benjamin Roberts one - just 1 or 2 very slight differences!

However, by my own experince the pricing between the two, the Mori Lee came out cheapest in both shops that I seen it in, and I would of gone for this dress, but the colour wasnt for me and i liked the colour of the dress i got more.

Defo worth looking at a 2nd hand veil, as liek we have said, were not going to have the veil on all that long if only using for church and pics.

As for choosing between your 2 dresses - for me it would be the Mori Lee one x

I'll be 35 and I'm deliberating on whether to have a veil or not? Seen some reasonable ones on Ebay, just to the elbow and were only around £15 so not too pricey if I change my mind and end up not wearing it lol! x

Hmm, maybe give ebay a visit then. If I can find one at a reasonable price I may just be tempted.

Outdo you all. I am 53 and am having a cathedral length veil. No sparkles on it though!

I also had real reservations about veils and age, but it's the only thng that has made me feel bridal (I'm having a very simple dress) and my friends have all said to go for it, so I am!

I had a long veil and loved it. I felt like a princess. My dress was plain so i added sparkles to the veil.
