Opinions from anybody who has an HTC or iphone please...

Gillsy, 4 June, 2011 at 22:10 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 22

I'm thinking of changing my phone and wanted some feedback from anybody who has an HTC or an iphone.

I know iphones are all the rage but I'm thinking that they are a kinda "vanity phone". Sorry if that offends and I might like to add that I don't mind the idea of that - I like trendy stuff and like having trendy stuff!!!!! Its a bit like with MP3 players and the ipod although I did eventually bow down and buy an ipod which I love!!!!

Basically my issue is that I've read loads of reviews and it appears (from them) that the HTC is actually a better phone. I'm looking at the HTC Desire. Also the HTC is cheaper which, obviously, always helps!!!!!

any advice much appreciated!!!!

sorry if I've offended anybody with my comments above ?

I've had an iphone (got up to Iphone 3), now got a HTC and I can honestly say that I wouldn't move away from an Android phone. I just find it much easier to use and not as "locked down" as an Iphone

I've never had an HCT so can't really give a balanced view but...

I have the iphone 4. I love it. It's like another limb. BUT - what it doesn't do very well is the one thing it's supposed to do - phone calls. I don't think it's a widespread problem but my proximity sensor is nonexistent. In other words, when I'm on the phone to someone, I'm likely to put them on hold, mute or speaker phone throughout the call. As I say, not a widespread problem, but a problem for me all the same. Wouldn't give it up though! Ha!

My H bought me (and him!) an iPhone 4 when I gave birth to our daughter- so much for diamonds!! I was never taken with the iPhone before as thought it was a big and overrated phone. I've been proved wrong! Couldn't live without it. Yet to come across a hone that's as good for internet connection, love that it has a HD video so I can capture lots of E growing up! And Facetime has been amazing with my H travelling around, it's meant he hasn't had to miss our daughters' 'firsts'. My cousin has the HTC Desire and hates it- regularly throwing it and calling it names!

Can you go and have a play with them both in a shop and see what you think suits you best?

I have an iphone and I really really love it. Yes it is way more locked down than android phones are, but I really couldn't care less as it does everything I need and want it to anyway. OH has a HTC something and I love mine so much more, it's much easier to use, and the internet on it is way better too. So Iphone all the way for me.

Thanks to everyone for their replies - probably more confused now than in the beginning but I think I'll go, as suggested, into the phone shop and try both phones and see what I think. Also I know people with iphones so I could ask them for a wee play about I suppose.

I'm due an upgrade in ten days and really want to go for a smartphone, as my current phone (Sony erricsson W995) is quite a good phone for a normal non-touch screen but I do find it sluggish to respond and given I use it more for surfing and email than anything else it's not really ideal.

My other half just upgraded to a HTC Desire HD (the one with a massive 4.3inch screen) it's a great phone, very responsive and the Sense interface is really nice. Though large and rather heavy and the battery life is a bit iffy.

I have to admit to being a bit anti-apple but having done sone research I have to say the Iphone 4 does look like an excellent piece of kit, given it's over a year old it can still hold it's own with the current crop of Android smart phones and is only just starting to lose out on spec to some of the really new stuff. However the big issue for me with it is the expense. It's really, really expensive. On my orange tariff I'd have to pay something stupid like £300 for the iphone 4 where as I can get a HTC Desire HD for way less.

But having done all the research I've pretty much decided that I'm going to go for the Samsung Galaxy S2, it's not quite out yet on Orange but should be by the time I get to my upgrade date. It looks like a brilliant phone with a dual core processor and a really nice AMOLED screen. Plus it's sleeker and lighter than the HTC Desire HD. I'm just wondering what it'll cost me when it's available - but no doubt it'll be a lot cheaper than an Iphone 4.

This is my biggest issue - is it REALLY worth it??? I can get both phones free with Vodafone and the HTC will be about £30 a month and the iPhone about £40 for the same kinda contract.

I have the HTC desire and I wouldn't swap it for an iPhone if you paid me. It's Android all the way for me, much better than iPhone apps and I'm a great supporter of open source.

I love the functionality of the phone, and if you are looking for any down side at all, the battery life isn't the best, however the camera, android market more than make up for that imo.

No offence taken from a vanity wearer of the iphone!!!

Seriously though, I had an iphone as I drive around 300 miles per week and I wanted my phone to be my ipod, so I could use it in the car. I have been thoroughly delighted with it, and would recommend. However, I guess with all these phones, you need to prioritise what it is you want from them to chose the best one for you!

An an iPhone user. I works very well for me and I wouldn't move away from it. It also speaks to my iMac and my Macbook so everything is in check. Love it!

I love my iPhone, wanted one for ages and finally got one a few months ago when my old phone got smashed (by me falling on it...I may have been drunk Smiley winking ). I love the apps, I love the camera, I couldn't be without it. My only criticism is that I used to be able to text without looking, but I find it very hard to text whilst doing anything else but focussing completely on the phone (that may sound weird).

HTC Desire would be my vote. Just as many apps, just as good, cheaper! Battery life not so good but that will also depend on how much you have running. OH is a gadget geek with an iphone and he is very green of my HTC desire.

My partner has iPhone 4 for personal use and HTC Desire for work. We both agree that the iPhone is hands down the best one. It's far from a vanity phone as it's so versatile and will fit in with whatever kind of person you are.

Htc desire here, i love it, I had a play with the iphone and it was nothing special (obviously my opinion) I don't think the iphone is worth the money compared to the htc which is just as good. \if they were the same price I would still go for the htc with it being android.

the HTC desire also beat the iphone in recent consumer studies and reviews.

I haven't used a HTC so I can't comment on that but I've had my iphone since January 2010 and I ❤️ it. Wouldn't be without it!

I work for a mobile phone service provider (not allowed to say which one though, d'oh!) and would definitely recommend the HTC Desire HD over the iPhone. The regular Desire or the Desire S don't compare quite as well in terms of screen resolution, although the Desire S will still run Android 2.2 very nicely and you can obviously still get all the Android apps.

I always think it helps to find out what the staff in the phone shop have got, because they're the people who see these phones day in, day out and will know what sells best and why, what has more software problems later down the line, and what customers generally feed back about them. Three out of the five staff in my store all have a Desire HD, and only one has an iPhone 4.....

Ooooh, also look at the Samsung Galaxy S II. Boooooooootiful, and unlike the HTCs has a front facing camera as well, so you can video call on it.
