Opinions please on what 'do' goes best

stoice, 30 November, 2012 at 13:39 Posted on Planning 0 7

I had a little hair trial yesterday.

The school my mum works in has a salon for students to learn hair and beauty and a teacher-friend of my mum's mentioned she had a fab 6th former who is a whiz with hair do's and why don't I pop in for a little trial. I'm going for a proper trial in the new year but I thought this would help me decide what to ask for.

So we got through three 'dos' in our time together, only using pins and some back combing, no hairspray or anything (So they were a little bit fluffy)
I've discounted one as it was just like a posh pony tail. But the two others she did I'm quite taken by.

This is my dress (So far I'm thinking no strap, but I may be swayed to having it on one shoulder.

And this is 'do' one. Side swept.

'Do' number two is up completely...

I usually have my hair tied back for work, but down the rest of the time.

I'm thinking the up do may make me feel more 'exposed'. I don't like my back and am a little worried about all the eyes on me when I walk up the aisle, but then a veil tucked underneath the do could sort that. The side-do had a softer feel and I felt comfortable with it as it's the side I usually have my hair when down. I wonder if the waves/curl in my tresses in the side do would fall out during the course of the day?

What do you think would go best?

It looks lovely down but I'm not keen on the way the curls are arranged in a row. I think the row needs to be narrower or the curls need to be arranged in a more circular fashion (like your up do).

As for what goes best, I think the down do would look better with no straps, the up do would look better with strap(s).

I like the down do too. I like the way it is off your face, but I'm not sure if I like the back detail as much (though I can't quite put my finger on what it is I don't like so much).

Are you having a veil or tiara or anything?

Am in general agreement with the others. You have gorgoeus hair and it looks beautiful down.

I think my issue with the actual hairstyle is that it looks a bit too contrived - almost in the way a very old fashioned perm would (Not that I'm saying it looks like a perm, just the very formal nature of it) .

Id like to see what you look like with a more relaxed and informal down-do and perhaps a much softer up-do.

I thought the up do was a bit big, although I liked the height achieved from the back combing before the curly bit, I think the curly bit is too busy, you're right. On both dos I've gone for a side sweep at the front as I'm conscious of my spam(!) and felt it softened the look rather than being scraped back. I think I'm leaning towards the side do but changing the 'fancy bit' at the back somehow. The side do curls in a row looked ok with the veil on, but a bit weird when it's taken off.

The up do was so big (I have Lots of hair!) that the veil would have to be underneath with no chance of the top tier being over my face (Which made me cry in the dress trying on sessions)

Something more like this maybe? (Without the flower thingy) Although I'm not sure where to put the veil on this.

Definitely veil over strap. I've bought a lovely one from Pink Margaret I'm totally in love with. I was only considering the strap if it evened out the look maybe. (The strap can be worn halter neck, over each shoulder or going from the front on one side to the back on the other btw). This is the shortest my hair has been in ages, I used to be able to sit on it! I think as people have always seen me with long hair it'll be nice to show it off with a bit of glamour and I think the side do may achieve this. So do you think a side do with veil on a strapless dress would look ok?
