Orchid centre pieces....

MrsCJ, 30 October, 2010 at 14:21 Posted on Planning 0 12

I have bought the 40cm tall vases but trying to find realistic looking silk orchids. Any ideas?

Ordered a few from ebay but look too fake! Here is what I hope to recreate..

Thanks xxx

    Hey,

I've just saw a girl in the for sale forum say her ones were only £1.50 a stem for singapore orchids. Two florists have quoted me £18 a STEM! Think i'll do more research on the real thing. Tesco a great idea xx

Sherrie can you recreate the look in the pic? What you thinking price wise? Like white with purple centres!

Be interested in buttonholes too. Also bridal bouquet? Feather idea maybe too much, i cant decide!

    xx

I know! As i asked two different florists I thought it must be the going rate.

My friend at work has offered me her friend's services as she is a former florist...think i'll give her a ring. Wouldn't mind artificial as they can be kept for memories! xx

Singapore orchids are much cheaper than cymbidium orchids which are the ones shown in your photo! Cymbidiums are expensive and you don't often see this in a pot in supermarkets.

Phalaenopsis orchids are the ones which most supermarkets sell in a pot and they are relatively cheap compared to cymbidiums. You can pay up to £5.00 per Bloom so when there are five or six blooms on a stem as shown in the photo, you are looking at serious money but they are gorgeous! So your florist is about right with her prices I'm afraid and definitely not ripping you off.

This is a similar arrangement but done with phaelanopsis orchids which would work out much cheaper! And even cheaper still if you used artificial ones as Sherrie mentioned because most the tropical blooms are much cheaper in their artificial form than their real form. This one has glass rocks in the bottom instead of the pebbles.

Dendrobioum are the best Orchids to use in the Cylinder vases as they have smaller & more flowers per stem so more cost efficient. They fill the vase so you won't need as many.

They come in Purple & white/Ivory as well:
