Order of service for a Civil Ceremony - do I do one???

16 September, 2010 at 12:41 Posted on Planning 0 13

Thinking that although I dont need to do an actual order of service, I should do some kind of order of day type thing.

What has everyone else done?

What did you put in it??

TIA!

I googled this the other day for some ideas because I was wondering the same thing

Apparently some registrars may object to you calling it an 'Order of Service' because that has connotations of a church service, but an Order of the Day can be useful if you want to remind people who the Ushers, bridesmaids, best man, parents of the bride and groom are, also if you want to give any directions between venues, menu, timetable of the day, print up any readings you're having in the ceremony. There's loads you can put in there depending how comprehensive you want to make it. We're most likely going to just have a simple card with a run down of the times various things are happening.

Ive been thinking about whether or not i need to do one.

at a friends wedding last year, they had an easle (sp) with a big board with all the order of the day on the the entract hall, that was quite handy!

I'm definitely having one (well, so far as my tentative plans allow me to be definite!!) because my family are hoarders and things like this will be keepsakes Smiley smile Plus it's good to give people an idea what's happening when!

That's another aspect that makes me want one; I've kept an OOS from every wedding and funeral I've ever been to. They're nice mementos of the days (even funerals, in a weird way).

I'm having Order of the Days too.

I have put times of everything happening throughout the day, everyone in the Wedding party and their roles, directions from ceremony venue to reception venue with car park info too. I also put the reading we are having in it.

I've done an order of the day. On the front it's got details of timings for the day and then on the back I've put details of who the bridal party are and how each person relates to the bride and groom.

We're planning on having these to give people an idea for meal timings(sp) as we have 4 insulin dependant diabetics (one of whom will only be 6 - bless him), and also so people with limited mobility (another half a dozen) know when they can sneak off for a quiet sit down / take medication discretly(sp).

We're letting people have them in a welcome pack in their hotel (my family and friends) the day before the actual wedding and MIL2B has said she'll deliver his side. I just know that some of my older relatives will panic if they don't know when they can nip off.

Everything really lol, map of the city, good pub / restaurant guide, taxi numbers, places to avoid, take away menus, a couple of bits from tourist information and OH's favourite bit - a guide to Hull speak. Oh and an order of the day, details on parking at the venue and anything else I suddenly remember closer to the day
