Order of Service help please. HIBS too x

BridalButterfly2012, 21 March, 2012 at 18:59 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi all just a quick question. I was having my order of service made for me by a girl who was building her business and was only charging me for the materials. She has just informed me that she is closing business and will not be able to make me my Order of Service for me. I am so gutted and stuck. I don't know where to start. What type of details are included and where to start. Can you all please give me some advice and any info you can as to what should go in them and the order. I am having a church ceremony but i don't really know anything about the typical layout of the service etc and what needs to go in the O of S and what can be missed out.

Thanks in advance x

this is mainly up to your vicar. You will need to run things by him/her before you get started as they will have final say on layout & content x

I'm also having a church service. I asked my vicar to email me a copy of the basic OOS, which she did. All I have to do is insert hymn words. Probably best to email your vicar.

Basically my Revd wrote out a draft for me and sent it but it doesn't make sense to me. This is what she has given me- Tell me what you think.

    Music-

    Hymn1-

    Reading1-

    The marriage-

    The registration-

    Reading2-

    Hymn2-

    Prayers and lords prayer

    Final Blessing

Is that really all that is supposed to go in it?

This is a copy of our OOS that our vicar sent. Yours seems to have all the same things, just in a different order. So I presume it's fine. If it's whats your vicar has given you, then I would follow it.

    Ours:

    The Entrance of the Bride

    Welcome and Introduction

    Hymn 1

    The Marriage Ceremony

    Readings x2

    The Address

    Hymn 2

    Prayers

    The Lord’s Prayer

    The Signing of the Register

    Blessing

    The Wedding Procession

Hi hope you dont mind me jumping on your wagon as i'm struggling with this too, when it says introduction, blessing or reading etc is this all you have to write or do you have to write out the reading? .......do you just write corintian (sp) 13 or do you write the whole thing ? do you write the prayers? ........sorry for being so thick.

First step is to ask for church for examples. Perhaps its just here but they all seem to keep examples to give to couples with this problem. Once you know the kind of thing you need/want you can look into specifics and either make them or request what you want to be made by someone Smiley smile

My dad made my OoS himself. It followed the basic patterns already mentioned here. As for the readings, no, you don't put the whole reading in the OoS, because the church usually has bibles on the pews, or at the back that the ushers can give out, or can be put on chairs. You can say what the reading is - so for example Corinthians 13. That way then people can at least look it up in the bible if they want to follow it Smiley smile
