Order of service - nice intro wording

SouthB2B, 13 May, 2011 at 21:47 Posted on Planning 0 1

Yet again I turn to you ladies (and a few men) for advice when I fail on Google... We're having a church wedding and are putting together the order of service. We'd like to include an intro that has some info about the church (1 - 2 paragraphs max) and then some nice 'general' wording - perhaps a quote or poem, but nothing too cheesy! Does anyone know what I'm on about and have ideas on what to include? In particular I'm trying to work out how to make the church info bit and something more personal / weddingly flow together. Thanks in advance for any ideas x

You could mention the reasons you chose that particular church - if it's anything different than "its just round the corner and looks nice".

We had a bit of an intro about the service in ours (we had a communion service and wanted to explain to our non-churchgoing family why we were doing this and what was involved) and then a quote from 1 John on the following page, before launching into the service itself:

    "1 John 4: 7-12

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way:

God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us."

Remember though that you typically have to run anything 'non-standard' in your order of service by the vicar before getting it printed up!
