Order of speeches and when to have them?

esser1, 26 July, 2010 at 13:43 Posted on Planning 0 7

I (bride) want to do a Toast before the meal. Then the rest after. Father of Bride, Best Man, Groom - is that right? What are you doing?

We're having our speeches after the meal, and I'm not entirely sure on the order but I think it's groom, FOB then Best Man, or at least it was at the last wedding we went to. I also want to say a few words before the Best man x

Traditionally its FOB first so that he can welcome groom into the family and give a toast to the happy couple. Next its the groom...then the best man brings up the rear, Followed by present giving. Saying that...its not set in stone and many people change the order or who is doing one based on their own circumstances.

They were always done after the meal, but recently I have seen more done before the meal (which I think works better because if anyone is nervous it gets it over with so that they can relax and enjoy the meal).

Think traditionally it's fob, groom and best man last (to humiliate groom etc ha ha) but it's up to you. We haven't got a father of bride so my groom is going first, then my Bridesmaid is doing a speech then best man - do what feels best, no big rules x

Yes, I've seen this recently at weddings and thought it was a good idea. Then all those making speeches can really enjoy their meal!

We are going FOB, Groom and Best Man and we are going before the meal as my OH was a Best Man in May and said he didnt enjoy the meal at all because he was so nervous so we are getting them over with first!

    Hiya

We find at about half of our weddings the speeches are before the meal - is a good idea for anybody with a nervous father, groom or best man so that they can relax and enjoy their meal ?

This is what we're doing too. I want to get the speeches out of the way so everyone can relax, including me as I'm worried about what everyone is going to say about me in their speeches (I can be a bit high maintenance and I'm pretty sure that will get mentioned by everyone) x

We're having speeches before the meal too. My BIL has been a best man 3 times and he said the nerves are awful and he never enjoys his meal because he cant wait to get the speech over with and breath again! Defo think we'l be doing it before to avoid this for h2b BM and my dad x
