Ordering Wedding Dress from Ebay??

wellsl5, 18 February, 2013 at 12:33 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hi,

Im Laura and Im getting married June 2014... ages away yet but Im expecting a baby and wanting to get sorted now as know I wont have much free time on my hands soon!

I have been looking online at Wedding Dresses and notice that lots are advertised on Ebay where they are made to measure in China then shipped over. They are as cheap as £60 for goregous dresses! Does anyone know anything about these dresses? If they are genuine etc??

Thanks

I think this is a natural course of temptation for brides to be - myself included.

Most of them come from China, I do believe, and they are just copies of the dresses that you see on the website. Some reviews have been fantastic, but some have been abysmal. Terrible quality, terrible fit, terrible craftsmanship. Also, there is the Import fees, which are not mentioned in the large print. A lot of unhappy customers also stressed that they had terrible trouble getting their money back when they were presented with shoddy goods.

I personally was put off by all the terrible reviews I had read, (too much to go wrong) and opted for an inexpensive dress from House of Fraser, which I loved.

I didn't think it was worth taking the risk, but like I have said, some reviews I read have been absolutely glowing. It's a risk, I think.

    Hi Laura,

Dresses on ebay from other reviews I have read are very much hit & miss , buy at your own risk.

You've said your expecting, when is the baby due ? If possible you might want to avoid buying your dress before you have the baby to avoid pressure of loosing baby weight to fit into a dress you've bought previously. There are a few brides on here including myself that have bought their dresses off the peg or from sale ranges so this might be an option if you don't have time before your big day to order a dress after the baby has arrived.

    Good Luck

As an aside, if you are worried about the budget, you can get some beautiful dresses at a snip of the cost of boutique dresses in Coast, Phase 8, John Lewis, House of Fraser, Monsoon (is a favourite), even BHS, thesedays. And you can "Try before you Buy" with those as well.

    Good luck with baby.

The dress shops will tell you they order in the size of the largest part f your body then take it in. Good news is that most shops recommend ordering 6/7 months before your big day so lots of time to lose any baby weight you want to before ordering.

    Hi Laura,

I am getting married in July 2014 and have already got my dress! I ordered it from here: https://marketplace.asos.com/seller/weiweik/collection.

I know I have mentioned this place a few times, but I can't rate them high enough. The dress was £72 and delivery was £25. Instead of being made to measure, they have standard sizes (which I ignored) and the measurements of each size next to them. It fit me perfectly! I can honestly say it is exactly like the picture shows!

    Good luck Smiley smile

    Hi,

I am usually a size 14/16 and ordered an 18 based on their measurements, but they do allow 5/6 cm in the hem for alterations! Mine actually fits perfectly.

I would totally recommend it!! which one??

    It is beautiful!

If you look at the description it does say they can make it for you according to your measurements. It might be worth emailing them to ask the size of a 14?

I am waiting for a reply t an email I have sent them.

Its either that or I lose a lot of weight (which wouldn't be a bad thing)

I can't imagine it couldn't be taken out slightly. Like I said mine has a leeway of 5-6cm in the hem!

They have sent me requested photos of a dress that they have made and it looks pretty good for the price.
I think I may take the plunge. But I will wait until my other dress arrives first ?
