Organising a charity parachute jump

Lady Vixen, 1 July, 2008 at 11:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Does anyone have any experience of this?

My mum works in a school for children with special needs and they desperately need to raise some money. My dad and a few others have said they would do a sponsored parachute jump to raise funds but we're not sure where to start.

Any ideas?

    Whereabouts are you?

Our school did one last year and I was signed up to do it.We had to raise a minimum of £300 sponsorship each because the airfield still charged us £240 which came out of the sponsor money.

In the end I bottled it.Lots of people told me to do it, and a Hitcher even offered me a lot of money for the cause if I went ahead, but I was too scared?

Ring a parachute centre.... although some of them will have their own nominated jump charity.

    S'expensive, relatively.

Thanks Sare - looks like Maidstone is the closest location to us.

We did it in May for our village church roof fund - we also had a minimum amount to raise to do the jump. I think in the end we had between 12-15 people do it and we raised £5000. I can't offer too much practical help as I was busy with my wedding at the time but I would get in touch with the local parachute jump places first and see if they offer any discounts for charity/bulk bookings. Also make sure if you can't jump on the designated day you can go back when the weather is more favourable. We have some pics

We also organised a bus trip for spectators which raised a few extra quid as well, and I think they visited several pubs on the way back, making it a lovely social occasion too!

    Good luck.
