Origami flowers flash!

Arquard, 8 March, 2011 at 14:01 Posted on Planning 0 14

I've finally found an arrangement for my origami lilies centrepieces that I like! I've tried 3 different sizes and shapes of vase, various combinations of flowers with ribbons, feathers, glass beads etc and I hated them all. Three hours of shouting at my craft box this morning has produced this and I have to say, I'm really pleased with it! Originally I really wanted to incorporate my blue ostrich feathers to break up the silver and bring the two colours in our theme together, but I just couldn't get it to look right. So bugger it!

Anyway, the vases are going to stand on mirror tiles (round or square? Any suggestions?) and I'm scattering midnight blue silk petals and little silver star confetti around the table too.

Ooh they look great, love it. I'd probably say mirror tiles to match the shape of your tables? I'm not sure square tiles would look right on round tables, although round tiles might look OK on rectangular tables.

Thank you ? They're not that complex once you get into the swing of it. I found a YouTube tutorial on making origami lilies then used pearl beads on wire to decorate them. It's been a labour of love, lol!

I'm leaning more towards round tiles too.

Oooh I know what I can ask the florist HIBs - y'know the decorative grass stuff you use in arrangments? I think it's called onion grass or beargrass... Where can I get some? I want some in blue but google has only found me an eBay listing which quotes 15 days for delivery. I'm not sure where else to try!

Wow they are beautiful- but as a florist if you put the blue onion grass in it i really think it will spoil it. If you did really want it you coud just do some loops. I can get the blue onion grass. i will be popping to my wholesalers this weekend so can maybe get it sent to you by next week.

This is the only Blue I have seen:

Why not add some kind of crystal or pearl stem to them?

Can you get midnight/dark/navy blue? I thought about doing some loops just to break up the silver a bit and bring a bit more of the blue theme into it. Can't hurt to try it out. I'd be really grateful for any help in locating some anyway!

I put beads along the wire stems on the first trial but it's soooooo fiddly and time-consuming, I can't bear the thought of having to do it for another 70-odd flowers! Not sure how well you can make it out, but there's a lot of pearls in there already. Do you think adding more would be overkill? Should I just leave it as it is?

    I used a YouTube tutorial : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJGC4aGfGoQ

To decorate them, I used silver and white fine glitter along the petal edges, poked a wire through the bottom to make a stem and then attached pearls to three bits of beading wire to make the stamen. Actually really easy once you get into it!

To be honest they look fab as they are, adding anything else will make it look messy. I think adding grasses will be too much and take away from the delicate pearls & flowers. Not a big fan of grasses anyway and they look absolutely great as they are now.
