O/T - ALTON TOWERS

Debbie Graham Jewellery, 15 April, 2010 at 17:53 Posted on Planning 0 15

Not wedding related but wanted to share..

I have finally managed to talk my hubby into taking a day off from his business & we are going to Alton towers in the morning. My son is 13 & he is taking his friend.

My son & his friend have never been before but I bet its the adults who have the most fun!!

We are going to Florida later in the year, so I am hoping that my son will go on all the bigger coasters at A towers, so he knows what to expect when we go to Disney/Universal.

I have been to Florida a couple of times, the last time was 6 yrs ago for my honeymoon but did not take my son away with us, so I am looking forward to doing disney with him.

I am so looking forward to the new roller coaster at Alton Towers, just hope the weather stays nice. Its about a 2.5 hr drive, so early night for us all as setting off at 7.30 fri morning.

Will let you know what the new coaster is like.

Debbie

You'll all have an amazing time...alton towers is amazing.

it's worth queueing up for the front seat of "Air" - it makes the ride a million times better on the front seat at it really feels like you are flying!

    have fun!!!

I love alton towers! We always pay the extra for the fast pass ticket to the bigger rides (air, nemesis, oblivion and one more...). check online for voucher codes before you go, you can often get bogof vouchers which save a load!

Ooo do they charge extra for the fast pass...cheeky so and so's, they dont at disney for fast track..hmmmm

To be honest the only reason we are going is because I have got a few BOGOF vouchers, so it will be so much cheaper.

Will try take some pics so you can all laugh at how scared we look on the rides

Have a fab time! I want to come! Take snacks for the journey so you're not hungry when you get here. Last time we went we stopped for a Burger King at 8.30am and it was so required as we were starved!

Omg we went last weekend and I love it there! We go every year! We used our tesco vouchers to get tickets and only took about 5 days to come thru.

Totally rate the new ride thirteen - defo worth the wait! Make sure you tell us what you thought when you get back xx

    Hey Kihli,

Thanks so muchfor pointing us to these vouchers, we used these in the end & they worked out cheaper than the vouchers I already had. £17 for adults!!

Well as you can see, I am back from the towers!!

Got there just after 10am, took us about 2 hrs 15 mins, weather was gorgeous, so that helped.

My son is 13 & up till last year, the only roller coaster he had been on was the Ultimate at Lightwater valley, which is about 30 mins from our house. He loved that & for his first big roller coaster, I think it was a pretty good one to try.

Yesterday, I took him onto Oblivion first, my thinking was.. well if he will go on that ride (which I think is the biggest heart stopping ride at alton towers) then he will go on anything. He was scared at first on Oblivion but once you are strapped in, there is not much you can do... anyway, he LOVED it. got straight on there & after that decided to go que for the new "13" roller coaster.

We queued for about 2 hrs & sorry for all of those that love that ride..We were ALL really really disappointed with it & no way do any of us think it was worth the wait. The whole hype surrounding it being a Psycho (sp) coaster is a complete let down. It was just ok but certainly not worth the wait..

As we had wasted 2 hrs in the que for that, it did not leave us that much time to go on much else, my son & his friend went off to go on a few other rides but he didnt really fancy trying much more, which means that although I love florida & really really really wanted to go back again this year & take Calum, I dont think we will be.

I am not saying that Florida is all about the rides, there are other things to do there but I feel for what it is going to cost us to get there & then what we will spend once there, as Calum did not go on so many rides at Alton Towers, I dont think spending that amount of money is such a great idea.. He actually said that he woud perfer to go back to Cyprus than go to Florida.. At least we know & although its not all about him, it would have been better if he had wanted to go. I dont want to get over there & then have to put up with a moaning teenager..lol

At least we will save a fortune & that means we can have more than 1 holiday this year as a family, so back to the drawing board..

Glad you had a nice time.

I am going June 26th. We go every year with Friends.

We usually get on most things apart from the kids things, my favourite is the oblivion!

Hi - abit late on this thread I know but glad you had a good time. I only live about 12 miles from Alton Towers its lucky you didnt go a week ago.....my friend went and the whole place had a power outage people were stuck on the rides and everything...apprantly a girl I work with said that when she worked at ALton towers back when she was a student the RAF have to rescue people from certain rides!!! altho she said she had never known that to happen and Ive lived here 5 years and never heard of the RAF coming to rescue anyone.

I like Rita!!! and Air! I dont like nemises!!

Oooh, we could have popped in for a cuppa!! ha ha

never got time to go on rita, the que was an estimated 2 hr wait 7 after the 2 hour wait for 13, we didnt want to waste any more time in ques.

It's such a shame that they dont have the same "fast track" system in place like they do at disney/universal. You go to the the ride you want to go on, get a ticker stamped with a later time on to visit that ride, then you get time to go on the other rides. At least everybody gets a fair chance of going on all of the rides then.

The fast track pass they have in place at the moment at Alton towers, costs a fortune on top of your entrance fee, plus it does not cover 13 yet anyway. People were being told that as long as they were in line by 5.30pm, they would be guaranteed a place on 13 but it closed at 5pm, so that never happened for the poor people who were going back later to get on.

My hubby & I went on AIR... we loved that one!! Whilst we were waiting one of the carraiges broke down as it got into the station & the people on it were suspended face down in the carts for about 15 mins till somebody came round and released them manually!! didnt put us off going on it though.

We all enjoyed our day as a whole but not sure we would go back again soon.

Lol I would have put the kettle on had I of known!! lol

I def agree with the fast track system - would make so much more sense and really make it much more enjoyable! I have hip and back problems so I find it difficult to walk around all day and wait hours in ques!!!

I only go every few years or so!! I do enjoy it but I couldnt go very often!!! lol
