This is a huge bug bear for me!! The first dress shop i went into i was looked up and down like i shouldnt be there, and staff wernt really that honest or helpful. I told the lady i had a £1000 budget and i tried on lots of dresses and she told me prices, all under £1000, there were two i liked and she said 'oh ive got one thats like a cross of the two of them', so off she went to get it and i tried it on, fell in love with it and then she told me it was £1300!!! So unfair as it was over budget and she knew that. If she had been honest and said she had a dress but it was £300 over budget and did i want to try it on still i would have said no!

There isnt a dress shop in my town so not too much competition either! oooo fingers crossed!

Again, one of the main reasons I bought my dress from where I did was the staff, they were so lovely. Also, they asked me for an idea of budget and the dresses were laid out in the shop by cost, so she went along the rails and put a mark where my max budget was and I looked at all the dresses up to that point. I had no worries about picking outwith my budget and I could choose to look higher if I wanted to.

Another thing I like is I was there for hours but they didn't make me feel like I was taking up their time or that they had another appointment coming in and I would have to go. When I left I had no idea how long I'd been there, I couldn't believe it!! x

Tis done! I credit the lady at the bridal shop with finding my dress. All the other shops just let me look around but she took time to speak about what I was looking for, budget etc and then picked out 5 or 6 dresses for me to try. The last one was the one she had thought was best for me and it was "the one!" I actually would not have picked it out as I would have worried about it looking too big on my hips but it didnt at all. She made the whole thing a really nice experience.

Never got any champers anywhere tho.... lol!

ha me either, and funnily enough this is on my list, along with offering the poor firends and mothers that go along with the brides a drink or a glass of orange juice or something. Have to be vareful though, dont want to get into hot water with anyone saying i got them drunk then sold them a dress lol!! Was thinking of offering one small glass when they come into the shop and then as much as they like once they have chosen and deposit paid. Just need to keep wits about me there.

Thanks for all your comments, they really help. I really want a salon that ladies can come into and have the day that they dreamed about when they were a child. A special day, lots of frills and trimmings and a whole experience!

I second what the other ladies have said about staff and feeling welcome etc. I'm quite a big girl and really felt self conscious going into bridal stores. Every store in my area that I phoned only carried samples up to a size 14. I also found that all the sales assistant were young glam looking girls (nothing wrong with that tho - just me feeling bad about my own body!!!) and I felt like I shouldnt be there. The shop i got my dress from were lovely. They were 'real' women who were really lovely. They were mighty strong too pulling in a size 10 sample to fit me lol!!!!!

They have given me an instalment plan too so I can pay £10 a month if I want but they wont order the dress til ive paid 75% of the value.

Aw, so sweet that you noticed! I've just been really busy but have been checking in most days (can't stay away, lol). The planning is going well thank you, we were so organised that we hadn't done anything for months but now it's this year we need to start finalising things. Too exciting! [laugh[

How are things going with your dress? Have you ordered it? Any news on what's happening with the refund on the ebay one or is that a lost cause now?

Thanks kj82- Im fairly average size (a bit frumpy! lol), and im not one of those trim girls that wears funky clothes and knows how to look great everyday...or has the time to look great every day! But I really dont think size is anything at all and really hope that i can make everyone feel special. I certainly know how expensive weddings are too, and the amount ive had to work to pay for mine, so i really hope i can offer help and advice money wise in the same situation, so all your experiences help!

Jen - Glad you've been checking in. Its all been a bit mental for me at the moment too! Nope, ebay sellers are still not replying and its too long for ebay or paypal tp care, so money is a lost cause, whish i had kept the dress to put in my bridal boutique now, just to show people what happened to me! Are you on FB hitched?

Aw that's so annoying! At least you can always say you tried it, so many brides must think 'what if' and at least you tried and realised you'd rather go through a store. Doesn't help with the money though!

Yeah, I think I'm on the Facebook page, not been on in forever though. Last time i went on I got confused cos everyone has a different name! Too much for my little brain to cope with! ? I should go on and intodruce myself!
