OT Argh! First Crush related advice pleeeeeease!!!

Stupidgirl45, 29 December, 2008 at 11:27 Posted on Planning 0 26

OKay why, for the love of god can I not act like an adult sometimes?!!

Facebook - it's just an etiquette nightmare.

I get up this morning, switch on the PC for a bit of light hearted hitchin' and FB-ing and what do I find.....??

A flipping friend request from a bloke I had a crush on for 2 years in school and who totally humiliated me and made me feel like a total loser.

So do I :

a) Accept because I want him to look at my pics, and see how much better I look now

b) just accept and not think about it

c) decline as I clearly am not a grownup and able to handle a single request from a social networking site that means nothing from a bloke I knew 13 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh god, perhaps all the chocolate has gone to my head.

Advice?

Nona - i know you're on here, WWYD?

xx

That's a tough one, because part of me is shouting: accept him & show him how great you are now! But as said he made you feel bad, whether that was years ago or not, I can't forget that! So the actual real part of me says, isn't it better that he asked you to be his friend........and then you declined! And so thinking about it, I'd decline him. I'd not explain why to him - no need, just click the decline button smugly! You are allowed I think!

I love Facebook, but see no reason to have "friends" on there I wouldn't talk to if I was out & about, just because they were the "cool" people at school etc.

    xx

Hihi, not the only one who obsesses about these type of things. I recently declined a friend request from a girl who was my friend in school for 10 years and then talked behind my back. Clicking decline felt immature but great!

Oh dear, I'm so pathetic but I accepted, as after all we're both adults now.

And then I'll delete him in a few weeks time.

He won't notice either way anyway - he's got over 1000 friends.

But it did give me a giggle this morning. Plus he's kind of hairy and fat now.

I am totally childish, and would have added him for about a day just so you could see how much of a loser he is, and so he could see how fabulous you were.

    and then removed him. ?

It's a tough one as I have done the same - accepted 'boys' from school who called me "Vicki no tits" just so they can look at my pictures and see that I now have quite large ones ? They have all been reduced to limited profile viewing now!

I used to get called Ugly to my face and comparisons between lunch trays and my chest area were also made - not by this bloke I hasten to add, but by his friends....

Just been to gym and drinking cuppa soup so feeling virtuous - on with the *bridal* diet (..!!)

Very grown up of you to accept. It's funny the way some of the guys who were good looking in school have changed. Stupidboy must be chuffed with your earlier comment.?

Just delete him SG. When I first joined Facebook I got loads of requests from people I wasn't friends with at school, some of which I couldn't even remember, but added them because I went to school with them. I got so sick of seeing updates and getting chat requests from people I didn't really want to talk to or know anything about! A couple of weeks ago I went through my friend list and culled over 60 of them. If you're not interested in having any kind of friendship, even a virtual one, with people then don't add them.

Mel - I know you're right! I've deleted a few people from school as I was so unhappy there and having their updates makes me feel worse. I just wanted to feel smug that he sent me a request. Pathetic I know.

I'll delete him next year - it'll be my new year's resolution

I recently had a bit of a cull too - when people started joining groups like 'why do immigrants have more bl00dy rights than british people?' and other ridiculously ott daily mail type groups i decided to remove them. i don't want to be associated with those types of people.

cull him once he's seen just how non ugly you are!

Yeah i know what you mean.

And I hate it when people send me invites to add applications or join groups. Bog off!!! I don't need to throw sheep or other livestock at my friends...........

Secretly I was kind of hoping he would send me a message along the lines of "I'm sorry I was such a total jerk at school and I am not worthy to lick your shoes and ps, you are really fit now!" I am so juvenile.

Haha, no i would have been wondering and hoping for the same thing.... i won't add people i dislike now, but will add them if they ask, and then remove them, as it's FAAAAAR more satisfying!

It was lovely thank you! Went to wales on Tuesday night (on the train and amazingly we got seats - next to each other too!) and then had a lovely few days away

Got some fabby presents - an Ipod from Stupidboy (not so stupid is he...!) and a whole set of a bath range that I wanted from my MIL (i only asked for a few bits but she bought the whole lot!!) Here is a link in case you want to see - I love the smell and the body butter is fab. Here is the minitures set but she bought me the big size of everything!

How about you? Have you braved the sales in Bluewater?

Argh i have tried to reply twice but my wifi keeps crashing!

i love sanctuary stuff - you are a very lucky girl! i got some lancome face stuff and some chloe perfume, and am very happy with those. h2b and i are going to (hopefully) book HM and buy wedding rings soon, so they are our christmas pressies to each other.

not braved the sales, and not sure i'll bother - december's pay packet has a long while to last yet.... plus i can't stand it when shops look like jumble sales!

<hint> were you thinking about organising a january meet? <hint>

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeellll I did say I would.....

I was thinking maybe a saturday at the end of Jan/early Feb - so that the Cambridgeshire ladies can make it too....

Perhaps I will put a *feeler* thread out and see who is interested. :-)

I have just used my sanctuary stuff and I smell yummy - I did a hot sugar scrub, then the shower oil and then the moisturiser.... wow even my elbows are soft.

Lancome is lovely. Do you know where you might go on honey moon?

Think we agreed the first weekend in February would be the best option as January is a long month moneywise with most people getting paid early in December, and everyone will have been paid by the start of Feb.

Just to go back to the original question - I don't think people are told when you cull them (or so it says when I culled someone a couple of weeks ago!....) so sadly it doesn't have that same effect as if you'd declined them - although I'm not sure people know if you decline their friend 'invite' either!...

Why do people on FB have 'friends' who they don't actually know?! I don't get it .... but then I don't get the whole vampire/gang war thing either that folk keep asking me to join. I'm not down with the kids....

No sadly not. But he's not going to notice seeing as he has over 1000 friends. Personally I think that's weird.

My only FB friends are my IRL friends, my family, a few work bods and a few ladies from Hitched (most of whom I've met anyway) so I don't understand being friends with people you've never met and don't know at all.....

I feel much better for deleting him as having him on there was bringing back all sorts of bad memories from school
