We would also struggle with girl names as we can't think of any that we'd really like or would go well with our surname which starts with a vowel and most girl names end with a vowel so would sound a bit weird...

For a boy it was going to be definitely Vlad Michael but since, my OH's granddad died and he now wants his granddad's name for a boy as he was really close to his granddad: Kenneth (Kenny).

He likes Sara for a girl but I am not keen at all...

    Megan for a girl

    Dillion for a boy

have no idea what we'd do if we ever had two of the same sex it took us days to decide these 2!! we used the vito aka the friends episode I really like Cassie for a girl

? My OH is called Alex and is insistent that any children we have are named a variant of Alex: Alexis, Alexa, Alexandria so forth. That way he only has to remember Al.

My OH and I have only agreed on one name so far, which is Florence for a girl, you have to think about what the names can/will be abbreviated to and luckily we like all of them: Flo, Florrie, Flora etc.

Other names I like are -

Boys - Ned, Stanley, Arthur, Isaac, Bruce, Barnaby.

Girls - Sophia, Lottie, Elsie, Betsy, Lotta, Eva, Nancy, Tilly, Beatrice.

My main concern when naming children is that one day someone will say "My dog is called that!!!!"

My ex-SIL was called Kelly, which was also the name of my first dog. Every time someone mentioned the sister, all I could think of was the Staffy ?

She was a bit of a dog though.

I had one Nanny called Lily and another called May. I loved Lily-May until 1. Lily got really popular again (I'm just contrary) and 2. all my girl second cousins started getting named "Holly-May", "Lauren-May" etc.

We are set for girls she would either be Leah May (would like to spell it Lia) or Evie May (Evie is getting really popular) I also like Rosa but H2B not having any of that.

For a boy my OH like Joseph, where as i like Ethan, Eli, Issac, Noah so boy we may need to argue but he will have Thomas as his middle name.

We are going to have a year off after the wedding before we think of kids we have moved house, gone on holiday and got married in 12 months and we need to save some pennies.

Great thread and some lovely names...

I had a dream a few weeks ago that I had twins, a boy and a girl and I named them Madison and Michael. Since then the name Madison sounds really appealing to me, although I've always loved Mackenzie too...

I hated having an 'unusual' name growing up... I've met a fair number of people with my name now (not always spelled the same way) but anyway it made me determined to give my children fairly traditional names.

For boys I like Thomas, Jack.

For girls I like Ava, Grace, Lily, Rose.

Me and my OH will be trying soon after we get married and have discussed names. We're Welsh and OH first language is Welsh as is his family so we'd like Welsh names. We've decided to go for Tomos Dafydd Jones (Tom-moss, Davith). We haven't decided on girls names yet but our fave girls names are Gwenllian, Bethan, Catrin, Seren.

OH and I are Welsh, although I'm Welsh speaking and he is not. I'd like names that are definitely Welsh, but that are easy to pronounce. I wouldn't want to put them at a disadvantage if they went to live or work away from Wales!

I love the idea of keeping names in the family. My Mamgu (grandmother) is called Megan and I'd like to use that as a middle name. My mother's maiden name is Lewis and OH's brother's middle name is Lewis, so I'd like to use that too.

My favourite girl's name is Leah, but pronounced the Welsh way of Lei-ah. I'm afraid if I chose that name, people would automatically pronounce it Lee-ah, which is not what I like.

For girls - Lili Megan, Hanna Megan, Seren Haf (Seren means Star and Haf means Summer, but they are not thought of as hippy names as they might be in English!)

For boys - Lewis John or Lewis Anthony (John is my dad, Anthony is OH's dad), Noa

I am the proud owner of a Basil and Monty. I got all the usual unimaginative jibes for Basil at first but frankly, none of his peers so much as raise an eyebrow. Also I can't imagine calling either of them anything else. They are both little characters - almost a double act, and they have made their names their own if that makes any sense. As for girls there are so many I love but to think my favourites at the mo are either Dorothy or Edith. I have a daughter Emily and two other sons Harvey and Edward. So I guess my taste in names is quite varied.
