Im a teacher and can go off names very quickly depending if I have a naughty child named with something I like!

    Atm though I love

    Girls: Molly, Rosie, Esme, Pheobe

Boys: Daniel Seth, Jonah and Ari

My other half hates names that can be shortened and with him being Jewish we have to follow the tradition of their names having some relevance to somone who is no longer with us! We have some problems with naming coming up I feel... the names we can agree on however are Molly and Seth with middles names after someone who has passed away...

Anyone else have traditions they have to stick with? x

    Some fab name choices ladies.

We have Casey Thomas, Eden Hermoine and Blaise Ripley.

This Jelly Bean is going to be Jacobey William Dougie. If he was a girl, we were going to call her Darcey Tahirah.

My fave girls name is Ella, but I also love Amber. I think Molly is lovely, but OHs dog (who we've just sadly lost) was called Molly

My cousin just had a little girl and her second choice was Nevaeh (heaven backwards) which I thought was very cute.

I love Jake for a boy, but it's too simular to my OHs name, and we already refer to our unborn, imaginery son as JJ - Daddys name Junior. But perhaps spelt J-Jay. We also have a lot of Williams in our family so that's an option.

I've just met for the first time someone who has my Surname as his first name so am working on OH to let me have that one - it's not going to work though. Haha

At the moment fave names are Samuel for a boy, and Grace for a girl. Grace seems to be a popular one!

I have to be careful with some names as my married surname ends in an 'ey' so first names that end in that sound just don't go. Eg Millie Davey

I like old fashioned names like Ophelia and Rachel for girls but my OH would never go for anything like that. My OH has so many nieces and nephews and his kids have half and step-siblings which limits us too as (for example) it would get confusing if the kids had a brother on their mum's side called Oliver and a brother ont heir dad's side called Oliver. So for that reason, a lot of the more modern names are already taken (Oliver, Maisie, Ethan, Isobel, Olivia, Joshua, Nicole, Caitlin the list goes on!). That along with the fact that a lot of my mates have got kids now too so can't use the names they have picked. I am so indecisive anyway, I'm not sure I would cope with picking another human beings name for them. lol.

My first husband was an Austin - and he tried to kill me. Not that I'm saying this is anything to do with his name, but is one I would avoid like the plague!

I work with children so any names I can relate to them puts me off.

Plus I can tell you now which are the popular names as we get them in all the time! At the moment every other child is called Charlie, Jack, Lewis, Harry, George, and for girls Eva, Ava, Lilly, Charlotte, Sophie, Ellie, Grace. Am trying to think of more. Also May is very popular as a middle name, you know Lilly May, Ellie May, Georgia May etc etc.

It's a shame as I like Lilly as a name.

In a bit of a pickle with names for our kids. I'm Vietnamese and OH is Indian so I don't want it to be a completely ill fitting name to go with his boring surname.

My mum and I teach in schools and there are plenty of funny names about, there is an African girl at mum's school called Princess White, also have a Coco Chanel. Hate children with names spelt in silly ways like Dhenimz - still pronounced Denim! Argh makes me giggle when I read new registers.

Love the names Dimitri, Owen and Archie for a boy,

for a girl i like Caitlin or Molly.

A friend used to work in the hospital and one young couple wanted to name they're daughter chlamydia because they thought it 'sounded lovely'

suffice to say the nurses had to take them aside and let them know why it would be a bad name for a girl: saying that though someone did mention in this thread that a pretty sounding medical term could be an option...?

had to bump this one up because I couldn't stop laughing after reading about little baby Chlamydia ?

My aunt had a boy in her class called Guy but his parents pronounced it 'Gooey' because his mum had read the name in a book and loved it but had no idea how to say it properly!

As someone else has said, be careful with giving your child unusual names because teachers tend to treat pupils differently depending their names. Also, employers are often less likely to call someone in for a job interview if their name sounds unusual or foreign. Names like Patrick, James, Catherine and Elizabeth will probably still be nice, middle-class names in 15-30 years time but ones which have only just come into fashion recently could sound a bit chavvy in the future.

I like the name Rosza/Roszi for a girl.

If we have a boy my OH wants to call him Sandor (variation of Alexander) after his grandad.

Being an Irish living in the UK I like the idea of continuing Irish names in the family, eg. Aisling, Cliodhna, Eilish etc. The only thing is people being unsure of how to pronounce them, people often mis-pronounce my name which doesn't bother me, although my cousin is Nieve instead of Niamh so that people would know how to pronounce it...

My favourite story is the couple who called their daughter Caoimhe as they thought it was pronounced Kay-o-mee. First trip to A&E when she was 5 and the Irish nurse called out Queeva - cos that's how you pronounce it in Irish. They weren't very happy they hadn't researched it! ?
