OT but I'm back and broken!!

rebecca2286, 10 October, 2010 at 23:53 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi Ladies!!

I've been away for a week on holiday! Went up to Inverness last weekend to run the Loch Ness Marathon, then were heading into the Highlands for our holiday. DISASTER STRUCK!! I'm going to need entertaining!

5 miles in to my marathon excruciating pain started in the outside of my left knee. Im stubborn and thought I could run through it, but by 9 miles I had to withdraw as I could barely even walk and I calculated that at the pace I was going it would have taken me almost 10 hours!! GUTTED!

Drove out to the highlands and decided to go and see a doctor there as the pain hadnt subsided at all! They wre brilliant. Next time I'm ill I'm driving the 6 9 hours to the highlands, NHS scotland as so much better than NHS england! Anyway, they gave me crutches and told me to come back in tha afternoon for an xray.

So off I hobbled....up a mountain to visit the reindeer herd....down a mountain....all on crutches. Then back to the Doctors! Turns out I'm properly broken! Throughout my months of training I've damaged my ligament which has calcified and pulled away from the bone, taking bone with it and fracturing my knee in the process!!!!

Im now in a full leg splint for 6 weeks!!! From the top of my thigh to my ankle!! Im going to be going crazy!! I cant do ANYTHING!!! My wonderful OH has been putting my shoes and socks on for me and running round like the perfect man!!!

Anyway, I'm going to be UBER bored for the next few weeks....so keep me entertained ladies!!!

SO gutted about the marathon after all the months and months of training! And now what happens with my weight loss!!! GRRRRR!!!!

Check out the wibbly bit on the right!!

Yikes, I've never heard of that before, must be so crap for you!

Can you still run once its healed or are you not allowed to run ever again under doctors orders?

True, I do plan to spend broken time making pretty things!!

I'm not sure if I will be able to run again, I am seeing a specialist this week. I hope so, although I'm giving up marathons!! Triathlons from now on!! Worried about my wedding weight loss now though!

You poor thing, Rebecca. Sounds nasty. I've just signed up for my first marathon so this makes for scary reading.

I hope you get better soon x
