Today I have been cigarette free for a FULL week.... Whoop Whoop!

It has been hard and some days harder than others but got through it so well pleased with myself...

Whoop Whoop! Very impressive! I've never been a smoker but I've seen my dad quit twice and now how hard it can be! Well done!

    Well done you!!!

I am quitting on Tuesday along with OH. What aid have you used? Were going for patches.

It will save us around £200 a month. I am sick of paying to damage my own health and shorten my life span!!!! We must be mental!

    Hiya

We ought to start a stop smoking thread on here so we can update on progress and also support each other... Smiley smile

I went cold turkey, didnt use anything except for sugar free lollies when I needed the "hand to mouth" thing other than I have been ok, I have had a couple of moments though where if someone had been here with me and offered me one I would have snatched their hand off but I'm a stubborn sod and once I make my mind up about something I wont deviate from it so I suppose thats what got me through this week..

Thank you, he's taking all the support he can get at the moment! ?

He's the same as you though, using willpower alone, so I know how hard it must be for you both! Days 1, 3 and 10 are supposedly the hardest and it's certainly been true so far in which case beware for Monday!

First week is a big hurdle though so very well done!

For me, Day 1 wasnt too bad as my will power was still pretty strong but Day 3 was HORRENDOUS! So not looking forward to Day 10 now...eek!

    Well done!!

I am now 6 months fag free and so much better off! We used champix from the doctors after trying everything else and failing and its the only thing that's worked.

How have you managed to give up?

Little motivation tip to remember - a cigarette craving only lasts 10 mins max.

If you keep yourself occupied when you get one, it soon passes.

    Good luck everyone giving up

Fantastic! Well done! I managed it two years ago with Champix. Tried everything else previously, but they really worked! It does get easier as time passes, I promise! I don't even think about cigarettes anymore, and haven't for well over a year.

Well done! I'm another ex-smoker and I'll be 3 years fag free on 11/02.

I also went with will power alone and had to cut out drinking coffee and alcohol as well, as I knew that there was no way I could touch either without crumbling on the fag front!

I do still have the very odd occassion where I would kill for a fag - normally when I'm having a terrible day at work - and I have been offered by well meaning people, but the ability to say 'no' is soooooo much easier - there's no way I could throw away the last 3 years of good work!! (stubborn? Moi?!?)

I even managed to light one for the bride at a wedding I went to last year without any adverse effects. That said, if it had been a menthol, I may have had a little more trouble!
