o/t can anyone elses cats catch?

*Mini*, 3 January, 2011 at 19:23 Posted on Planning 0 18

Like actually catch?

if i throw a ball at my cat he stands on his hind legs and catches it between his front paws, been testing diffirent materials and distances and he still manages it!

Is this an indication that my cat is a genius [as i supsected] or is it actually that I have waaaay to much time on my hands?

Your thoughts?!

My friends cat doesnt catch but does play fetch in the hallway with tin foil balls... we throw, he runs to get it, picks it up in his mouth, brings it back and puts it by your feet and then waits for you to throw it again!

AI also have a cat that likes to play fetch - specifically with plastic bottle tops (the type you get on deodourant) My other cat also tries to pick things up and can hold them with her front paws whilst sitting on her back paws: no outright catching though.

I feel very sorry for my poor kitty at the moment- he's been continuously licking a cut and making it worse so we've had to make him wear 'the cone of shame' (for people who havent seen Up a cat collar)- he's coping with it quite well walks a bit funny kinda like a horse doing dressage, but i feel sorry mostly for him when he's washing - because he can't wash himself he's taken to washing the cone instead!

I'd say genius. You should film it and put it on You Tube!

My mums kitten is a brilliant dribbler of the ball. He will whizz a ping pong ball round the lounge at a vast rate of knots and has complete control over it either between his paws or on his nose ... its pretty impressive. He's only 20 weeks old.... but then he also sat and watched a teeeeeeny fly/moth thing on the ceiling for about 3hrs straight over christmas ... so he's not a genius. But a good footie player potentially... the cat worlds Wayne Rooney perhaps??!

My cat plays catch and fetch for ages at a time. If we say 'wheres your baby' he will go and get a specific toy and then play catch and fetch with it.

Osk doesnt do that at all.....he plays with his cat nip toys and gets stoned out of his tree lolol but hes not a fetch n catch kinda guy.

He lovessssssssssssssssssssssss cardboard though, eating it, ripping it, hiding amongst it. he's the kid who prefers the empty box over the toy..

Yep, our ginger tomcat Archie does. He leaps up and twists in the air to catch things! Cool to look at ?

our old she cat Puddy will play 'Puddy Tennis' for ages.....batting the ball/screwed up paper/whatever back to you whenever you bat it to her.

so sorry....not so much of a cat genius, more like too much time on your hands ?

that is sooo sweet. When Puddy was younger she loved string and we'd say....'where's stringy' and she'd go a fetch it....I love cats

We actually have a book that gives you certain stuff to do with the cat to ascertain his level of "genius" / intelligence. Apparently what you describe is in the advanced section and apparently the longer a cat can stand on his hind legs unaided the more intelligent he is said to be...Should you rename him Einstein?

I've had a couple of cats who played fetch, I also found that toys on elastic on a stick are great for encouraging jumps and backflips through the air while trying to catch them!

For more entertainment value, get your cat a laser pointer. Hours of fun. Also, catnip drops would make my cats get all uncoordinated, roll about on the floor and then compulsively wash themselves.

Here's an example of jumping for a toy onna stick:
