O/T - Do you have sympathy for this couple?

Http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2132578/Are-Britains-worst-wedding-pictures-Newlyweds-devastated-photographer-failed-couple-frame-took-blurry-shots.html

I've just seen this article and although part of me feels for the couple, part of me also thinks that they should have researched thoroughly before booking a shoddy photographer!

We researched loads of TOG's before we booked ours, we met him, followed his blog, had an engagement shoot with him and he's won awards so know for a fact that nothing like this will happen on our day.

What ever happened to good old research and recommendations before forking out money!?

I definitely feel sorry for them.

Whether they researched properly or not they still paid £750 for something and they have been let down. The worst thing about photography is the fact that you don't know with photography until after the event. If you make a mistake and don't do your research properly for example with buying an online wedding dress, or selecting poor stationery suppliers you have a chance to rectify before the big day but if you have poor photographs there is nothing you can do.

We booked and paid a deposit for our photographer before we met them, we booked purely on a recommendation and never spoke to nor saw any other photographers. When we first met them we thought what have we done as we didn't really like them, however having had our second meeting we are now happy with our choice and I think they will do a good job for us.

The article says that the couple met with the photographer, so presumably they would've been shown a portfolio? But, given the "string of disgruntled customers" who've forced the TOGs into bankruptcy, who knows if any portfolio shown was even real! (If not, the TOGs should be arrested for fraud!!!)

Yes, perhaps the couple should've done more research, but I do feel sorry for them. Money lost is one thing, but they'll never get back their wedding day and the photographs from that. Perhaps with the 1/2 refund they were able to obtain they can hire a TOG and do a post-wedding shoot in their wedding wear. Really a shame.

I too feel sorry for them. I think its easy to pass judgement when you have not been in their position.

It could happen to anyone, they met with the photographers and they obviously came across well as the couple wouldn't have booked otherwise! They could have shown false work, we do not know the situation. Some people will do anything these days to make money even at the expense of others.

I think its a real shame what they have done to the couple and thank god they are not trading any more!

I do feel sorry for them!

No matter what the circumstances it would be any couples worst nightmare.

My parents when they got married 45 years ago had been told by a family friend that he would provide the photos for free as a present to them.

He was a good photographer so didn't think twice about his kind offer.

On the day he took loads of photos of the bride and groom and families but when they came to have a look at them they were all black.

The film he had used had expired so none of the photos came out!

They were gutted to say the least!

This is awful for the couple - I really feel for them as they'll won't be able to re-live their day through their photos. This is why it's absolutely crucial that couples should do their research when booking their photographer, view full weddings and check for any bad online reviews.

There's a photographer in the north east who's been featured on our local news programme a few times with similar horror stories from couples, and did go out of business (last I heard....).

Yes I feel really sorry for them. They can never have their wedding day again and hindsight is a fine thing.

The Daily Mail can't half manipulate a story! 'Pile of cardboard boxes in foreground' ... thats their card box on a table!

They're not as bad as I was expecting! At least they have pictures. The one of the 'guests head in the frame' is just a little kid who happened to run past at the time it looks like. Yeah the TOG should have taken another one (they probably did!) And saying the guests aren't looking!... Well thats why they take a few photos of the same bit. To make sure everyone is looking!

Every TOG takes a picture of the couple from behind, its to show off the detail of the dress!

Yeah the pictures are bad but I think this story is blown out of proportion.

IMO, this couple should have done more research and got someone a bit more professional but they're not as bad as I was expecting. I blame the couple as much as the TOG. The cake picture for example... she must have noticed they were standing to the side?? I'd have just asked them to take one from the front!

Also the groom's parents surely could have said that no photo of them had been taken. I know they shouldn't have to but they easily could have!

Though, like them I'd be gutted if my wedding photos came out like this.

I do feel sorry for them and some of the photos are shocking....BUT it's hardly the tog's fault that someone wasn't keeping hold of the kid playing with his motorbike in the background of one of the photos (it's not eerie, it just shows that no-one was watching the child!), nor was it the tog's fault that the guests all decided to look anywhere but at the camera during the group shot.

Hope they still have some nice photos from the guests - not the same, but better than nothing.

Some of these photos are fixable with some editing/cropping, but the blurry images are inexcusable.

Its always worth investing time to get the best supplier.

In a Facebook group, I've seen someone asking for a full-day service, with images on CD and Album for.... £350 - and then asking if there is anyone cheaper!

Sometimes suppliers will be cheap (starting out, inexperience, need the portfolio), and if we're aware of this and understand the risk (no back-up equipment, lack of experience), then all is ok.

We can hardly expect the same level of service from the cheapest supplier from one that is charging a more typical rate.

I feel so sorry for them Smiley sad but some of the pics are salvageable with a bit of cropping. Hopefully the guests took some lovely pictures and they can piece together their lovely day. Such a shame! x
