I thought more people would be interested in who had been there before them?

I'm not sure anyone famous or historical would have ever visited my venue let alone been married there!

Though I do know that the house (it's now a hotel) was built by the Fuller family of Fuller's brewery, which is pretty cool as Fuller's London Pride is my favourite ale, and the Fuller's brewery is in Chiswick, where I grew up ?

Oh, this is right up my street! Whenever we book a wedding at a very old venue, the first thing I do is research it's history, and see who was there before me. I am a huge history buff. Thinking about the figures in history that were at your venue before you must give you goosebumps Smiley smile

I am getting married in a hotel in Carrikfergus but iwe are going to go to Carrickfergus castle for pictures!! It was built in 1177 by the De Courcy family. But it does not get a mention in English records until 1210 When king John laid seige to it. Then King William lll in 1690. Then it was used as a prision during the Napoleonic Wars. I love this post History is my thing!!! So i love finding out info of old places.

Our venue itself is famous - the oldest brewery in the country!

Don't think anyone famous has ever got married there, or held an event there, or even visited it.

Mine is a reasonably new venue and although I know they have some well know members at the golf club, they are mostly Stoke City Players and Darts players so nothing massively famous!

I'm not sure I understood the original question initially!!!

My venue has quite a long history too...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theobalds_House

    A summary...

    • The Queen visited eight times between 1572 and 1596.
    • In 1607 the house passed in ownership from Robert Cecil, who had inherited it from his father, to James I
    • Theobalds House quickly became a favourite country seat of the King James I of England (James VI of Scotland), who eventually died within its walls on March 27 1625.
    • With the execution in 1649 of James I's son, Charles I, Theobalds was listed amongst other royal properties for disposal by the Commonwealth.
    • It was given by King William III to William Bentinck, 1st Earl of Portland. Theobalds House was replaced in the Georgian period by yet another stately mansion, known as Theobalds Park after the estate on which it stands, and which still survives.
    • Theobalds Park passed from the Prescott family to the Meux family of brewery fame in about 1820, and they made alterations and added extensions during the 19th century.
    • In 1888, it caught the eye of Lady Meux (formerly a banjo-playing barmaid); the Temple Bar gateway was purchased from the City of London and the 400 tons of stone was transported by horse-drawn carts to Theobalds Park, where it was carefully rebuilt. Lady Meux often entertained in the gateway's upper chamber; guests included King Edward VII and Winston Churchill
    • The Temple Bar had remained in the hands of the trustees of the Meux family estate and despite its status as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, had lapsed into decay. After a long campaign, it was decided to return it to the City in 2001. The arch was again dismantled, and was reconstructed on a site next to St Paul’s Cathedral.

I am getting married here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brownsover_Hall (as are Kat44 and xxSammixx).

Sir Frank Whittle lived here for a while, and used the room we are getting married in as the room in which he did his work on his jet engine. As a mechanical engineer working in the aerospace industry on aircraft fuel control systems, this is pretty apt for me!

    • King George V and Queen Mary, whose daughter, Mary, Princess Royal married the owner of Harewood House, the late 6th Earl Harewood, Henry Lascelles;
    • HM Queen Elizabeth II - nearly every time she comes to Yorkshire, as the current (7th) Earl Harewood, George Lascelles, is her first cousin.

It's really interesting to see the history of everyone's venues!

I think quite a few historical people have stayed at mine Smiley smile

Mary Queen of Scots, was there as a guest and prisoner of Bess of Hardwick and her fourth husband, the Earl of Shrewsbury, between 1573 and 1582. Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, lived there with Duke and Lady Elizabeth Foster in the late 18th century.
