O/T - Has my wedding given me eczema?

xMissyLoux, 3 April, 2012 at 21:39 Posted on Planning 0 5

I've recently just developed itchy red patches of dry skin, which I assume in eczema(!) on my neck, chest and elbow creases. I've never suffered from these types of skin problems before or even really had sensitive skin.

My mum has said stress can bring it on and the girls in work have said the same. Although I'm not finding wedding planning stressful as such they think the constant thinking about it, slight worries I have (although I'm not agonising over them!) may have caused it.

I need to find time to get to the doctors to check it is eczema but think it probably is as not sure what else it could be! But online it seems to say eczema is mostly common in children and either gets better or stays the same. Couldn't find anything about adults developing it all of a sudden!

So just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I'm even more worried now about having red blotchy skin on my wedding day and more scarily another thing to 'ruin' my photos ?☹️

Search for "adult onset eczema". I have this, and have done for a few years, but normal moisturisers kept it in check until the last year or so. I saw the Doctor a while ago and he prescribed much stronger steroid cream than you can get over the counter, and also some other moisturising products. I was also advised not to use ANY bath products or soaps other than Oilatum or similar. After 2 weeks it had all cleared up. This week it's come back for some reason, but I'll blitz it the same as last time. No reason to have dodgy skin in your photos, so don't worry xx

I have eczema and it flares up at times of stress. See your doc and they can prescribe a cortisone cream which was help take the redness and itch away. I suspect on the day you won't care about it too much and the photographer can still get nice pics of you even with red bits! If you can't get to the doc try HC45 which is a mild steroid/cortisone (can't remember which) they sell over the counter and does the trick for my lighter patches.

I get red blotches in my elbows when I'm stressed or hot, and it is a mild form of eczma. TBH I find any moisturiser sorts it out for me, E45 cream is also good, or failing that a hydrocortizone (sp) cream will help but i think u need the doc for that.

Obviously if its been bought on by stress, worrying about it wont help, so the best thing I find is to whack some cream on and leave it. Mine is normally gone overnight with cream or within a few days if I calm down, so maybe yours will too?

Try and give yourself a night where you can just chill and relax. I'm sure you can afford a week off not wedding planning at all to calm you down a bit and to get you thinking about other things rather than stressing?

My mum seems to have developed eczema for the first time in her life in the build up to my wedding....! The doctor prescribed some steroid cream, but HC45 is also a good shout. Maybe worth getting some now and seeing what works and then if it is bad in the build up you'll know how to fix it.

Thanks guys, I will try and get to the docs ASAP

At the moment I'm applying E45, not made much difference yet but before I started using E45 it would be there, disappear after a couple of days and then come back again all within a week!

The thing is I don't feel stressed or overly worried at all! I'm loving planning my wedding, I'm totally obsessed and completely addicted to hitched but have been told this may be the problem although not stressed or worried I don't let up thinking about it I'm THAT excited!

Just gutted it's the last thing I needed, already suffer with adult acne and have started worrying that I'm quite wrinkly for my age and now I have eczema to throw into the mix ☹️

Hope it disappears completely as really don't want flare ups for life!

I have this! i come up with eczema whenever im stressed (not that i ever notice that at the time) i will come up with it on my neck, top of arms and hands and don't even feel stressed then when i map out all the things going on at the time i realise i have wayyy to much going on. i know it will make an apperence before the wedding and as neck, arms and hands are all on show im worried but il just make sure i get to the docs a month before the wedding to stock up on plenty of stuff. get to the doctors asap and get it sorted as if it is eczema it can take a few goes on differnet medication before you find something that works for you really well.
